First Chief Ministers of Gujarat

Jivraj Narayan Mehta

Post-independence, he held significant roles, including being the first "Dewan" (Prime Minister) of the former Baroda State. Narendra Modi

The 14th and current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, assumed the position of Gujarat's Chief Minister from 2001 to 2014. His appointment in 2001 was a result of Keshubhai Patel's declining health. Modi holds the record for the longest tenure as Gujarat's Chief Minister. Upon becoming the Prime Minister in 2014, he relinquished his Chief Ministerial role and was succeeded by Anandiben Patel.

Anandiben Patel

Anandiben Patel made history as Gujarat's first female Chief Minister, serving from 2014 to 2016. Prior to this, she held the position of BJP's Cabinet Minister for Education from 2002 to 2007. On August 1, 2016, a day before turning 75, she announced her resignation from the chief ministerial position. She currently serves as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.

Bhupendra Patel

The current Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Rajnikant Patel, started on his political journey in the municipal councils of Ahmedabad before becoming an MLA in Gujarat. On September 12, 2021, Patel was overwhelmingly elected to lead the BJP legislative party and assume the role of Chief Minister of Gujarat, succeeding Vijay Rupani.
