BrahMos Missile System Acquisition by Indonesia

The BrahMos Missile System, a supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by Russia and India, is designed for direct target hits. Traveling at 2.8 to 3 Mach (three times the speed of sound), its name BrahMos is derived from the Brahmaputra (India) and Moskva (Russia) rivers (Memory Tip: 'Brah' for Brahmaputra and 'Mos' for Moskva). With a normal range of 290 km and a new variant extending to 400-450 km, it operates on a "Fire and Forget" principle. The BrahMos Aerospace Centre in Lucknow develops it.

Indonesia is acquiring this system for $200-$350 million to strengthen its defense. As the world's largest archipelago, Indonesia faces territorial disputes with China over the Nine-Dash Line in the South China Sea.

India has also exported BrahMos to Vietnam and the Philippines, and the Akash Missile System and Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher to Armenia. Indonesia's capital is Jakarta, located in Southeast Asia between the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

US-Iran Tensions and Kharg Island

Kharg Island, in the North of the Persian Gulf, is Iran's "Gas and Oil Island," holding vast oil and gas reserves connected by underwater pipelines. The USA has threatened to block Kharg Island, a move that could disrupt global energy markets. This geopolitical tension, influenced by US-Israel agreements against Iran, saw anticipated military strikes leading to Iranian missile responses. Such conflicts are expected to significantly impact global oil and gas prices, with India currently having a 45-day backup of crude oil.

Madhya Pradesh is the Cheetah State, housing Kuno National Park, Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary, and Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary. Banni Grasslands are being developed for cheetahs in MP.
