India Post GDS Apply Online 2026: The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, has released the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Notification, Schedule-II, July 2026, through Notification No. 17-12/2026-GDS dated August 20, 2026. The recruitment is being conducted for GDS posts including Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak in different offices of the Department of Posts.
Eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the official GDS portal. The One-Time Registration (OTR) window will remain open from August 31 to September 19, 2026, while online application submission and fee payment will be available from September 2 to September 21, 2026, up to 5:00 PM.

The Department has provided a two-day correction window after the application closing date. Candidates can use this window to make permitted corrections in their registration/application details.
Candidates must fulfil the prescribed age, educational and other India Post GDS Eligibility requirements mentioned in the notification.
The prescribed age limit is:

Maximum Age: 40 years
The age will be calculated as on the last date of submission of applications. Upper-age relaxation is available for eligible categories.

Candidates must have passed the Secondary School Examination (Class 10) from a recognised Board of School Education, with passing marks in Mathematics and English. Equivalent qualifications from other boards are not eligible under the notification.
Candidates must also have studied the prescribed local language up to Class 10 from a recognised board.

The application process consists of two parts: One-Time Registration (OTR) and filling the Online Application Form.

Applications will be accepted through online mode only.
Click on Candidate Login/Register and then select New Candidate Registration.
Candidates need an active mobile number and email ID, both of which will be verified through OTP.
Fill in details such as:

Date of Birth
Gender
Father's/Guardian's Name
Mother's Name
Community/category
Mobile number
Email ID
Candidates must enter their details carefully and ensure that their name, date of birth and other details match their Class 10 certificate.
After successful registration, a unique registration number will be generated. Candidates should keep the registration number safe for future login and application submission.
Log in using the registration number and password. Select the Apply Online option under the active notification.
Candidates need to enter their educational details, including the Class 10 board, passing year and marks obtained.
Candidates can select eligible posts based on their community, age, PwD status and local language. The candidate can apply for vacant GDS posts in only one selected Division and must provide preferences for eligible posts.
Candidates must upload their recent photograph and signature according to the prescribed specifications.
Before final submission, carefully check all entered details and the uploaded photograph and signature. The notification advises candidates to use the preview option before submitting the form.
Candidates who are not exempted must complete the application fee payment through the available online payment modes.
Complete the final submission and keep the application details/registration number safely for future reference.
The application fee is ₹100 for applicants required to pay the fee. However, the fee is exempted for:

Blurred or illegible photographs/signatures can result in rejection of the application.
There is no written examination mentioned as the basis for shortlisting in this notification. Candidates will be shortlisted through a system-generated merit list.
The merit list will be prepared using the marks obtained in the Class 10 Secondary School Examination, with the marks aggregated into percentage up to four decimal places.
Where applicable, the system will convert grades/points into marks according to the prescribed rules. For example, the notification specifies a multiplication factor of 9.5 for certain grade-point conversions.
Candidates shortlisted in the merit list will be required to appear before the designated authority for physical verification of original documents and further engagement formalities.
The notification states that shortlisted candidates must report within 15 days from the date of shortlisting.
