The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially announced the resumption of the “Own Scribe Facility” for PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) candidates 2025, marking a significant update for all upcoming competitive examinations. This decision comes after the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) issued a clarification allowing the continuation of the old system for examinations notified before 31st December 2025.
This move ensures that candidates with disabilities can once again choose their own scribes under carefully structured guidelines to maintain the integrity of the examination process.

Initially, SSC’s notice dated 03 September 2025 stated that the Own Scribe facility would be discontinued, and scribes would be provided only by the Commission. However, following DEPwD’s latest clarification dated 10 September 2025, SSC reversed this decision, allowing the resumption of the Own Scribe option for exams notified on or before 31 December 2025.
This step is a relief for many PwBD candidates who prefer using their own scribes for better communication and comfort during examinations.
To ensure fairness and authenticity in examinations, SSC has introduced new mandatory guidelines for those opting for their Own Scribe in 2025. These conditions are in addition to the existing eligibility criteria and are crucial for both candidates and scribes.
The age of the scribe must correspond with the educational qualification required for the examination:
Matric Level Examination: Scribe’s age should not exceed 20 years
10+2 Level Examination: Scribe’s age should not exceed 20 years
Graduate Level Examination: Scribe’s age should not exceed 22 years
This ensures that scribes possess the appropriate level of understanding and knowledge suitable for the examination level.
Every scribe chosen under the Own Scribe Facility must undergo Aadhaar-based authentication at the examination center.
If a scribe fails Aadhaar verification, they will be declared ineligible
In such cases, the candidate may either opt for an SSC-provided scribe or appear without one.
This step has been added to prevent impersonation and enhance exam security.
For the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2025 (Tier-I), the SSC has laid down additional operational guidelines:
PwBD candidates availing the Own Scribe facility must complete fresh scribe registration on the SSC website, as previous registrations have been invalidated.
The scribe registration process is integrated with Aadhaar verification, making it essential for all scribes to link their Aadhaar details while registering.
Candidates must map their scribe’s OTR (One Time Registration) number before 08 November 2025 (11:00 PM) to generate the scribe’s entry pass.
Scribe Passes will be generated only for those successfully mapped with valid OTR and Aadhaar verification.
Candidates wishing to use their own scribes must follow these steps carefully:
Visit the official SSC website — https://ssc.gov.in
Log in using your registered credentials.
Navigate to the Scribe Registration Portal.
The scribe should complete Aadhaar-based registration on the portal.
Obtain the Scribe OTR Number from your scribe.
Enter and map the OTR Number on your candidate dashboard before the deadline.
Download the Scribe Entry Pass once successfully verified.
Failure to complete these steps will make the candidate ineligible to use their own scribe during the examination.
All other terms and conditions will remain as per the SSC Scribe Procedure Notice dated 25 October 2024, aligned with DEPwD guidelines of 2018 and 2022.
Candidates can now check their exam city and date allocation by logging into their SSC account from 05 November 2025.
Those who selected an alternate city have been assigned exam centers as per availability.
If a preferred exam city was not allotted, candidates can represent their issue through the SSC Feedback Portal by 08 November 2025 (11:00 PM).
The resumption of the SSC Own Scribe Facility for PwBD Candidates 2025 not only restores accessibility but also emphasizes the Commission’s commitment to inclusivity and equality in public examinations. With the introduction of Aadhaar-based authentication and age restrictions, SSC aims to strike the right balance between accessibility and examination integrity.
