The total duration for the Computer Based Examination is 2 Hours. Sectional timers are allocated as follows: 30 minutes each for Part I and Part II, and 60 minutes for Part III. For eligible scribe candidates, the total duration is 2 hours and 40 minutes (40 minutes for Part-I, 40 minutes for Part-II, and 80 minutes for Part-III).
Candidates shortlisted based on their performance in the Computer Based Examination will be required to appear for a mandatory, yet qualifying, Skill Test in Stenography.
This test involves dictation for 10 minutes in either English or Hindi (as chosen by the candidate) at a speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for Stenographer Grade 'C' and 80 w.p.m. for Stenographer Grade 'D'. The dictated matter must then be accurately transcribed on a computer within the allotted time.
The transcription times are as follows:
For Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (English): 50 minutes (70 minutes for scribe eligible candidates)
For Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (Hindi): 65 minutes (90 minutes for scribe eligible candidates)
For Stenographer Grade ‘C’ (English): 40 minutes (55 minutes for scribe eligible candidates)
For Stenographer Grade ‘C’ (Hindi): 55 minutes (75 minutes for scribe eligible candidates)
Compensatory time for scribe eligible candidates is 20 minutes per hour of examination.
