Before evaluating the final core aggregate cutoff, candidates had to clear strict accuracy benchmarks during the shorthand evaluation. The maximum percentage of errors/mistakes allowed by the commission stands as follows:
The SSC Stenographer Skill Test is qualifying in nature, and candidates are called for it only after clearing the CBT and meeting the Commission’s prescribed qualifying marks. For Grade C, the dictation speed is 100 words per minute and the transcription time is 40 minutes in English or 55 minutes in Hindi; for Grade D, the dictation speed is 80 words per minute with transcription time of 50 minutes in English or 65 minutes in Hindi.
Candidates must first clear the CBT and then qualify in the skill test.
The skill test is not scored like a merit paper; it is used to check stenography proficiency.
SSC may also prescribe category-wise qualifying standards for the skill test.
Grade C: 10-minute dictation at 100 w.p.m.; transcription in 40 minutes (English) or 55 minutes (Hindi).
Grade D: 10-minute dictation at 80 w.p.m.; transcription in 50 minutes (English) or 65 minutes (Hindi).
The final cutoff marks represent the score of the last shortlisted candidate in a particular category for specific department codes. Because allocation is department-specific, cutoffs vary across secretariats. Below are the benchmarks for prominent standard post categories:
