SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have successfully passed the 12th standard from a recognised board or university.

Age Limit

The age limit for applicants is 18 to 27 years. A potential change in the eligibility cutoff date is highlighted; traditionally, in August, it is strongly possible that for the upcoming exam, age will be counted as of January 1st.

SSC CHSL Exam Structure and Stages

The CHSL examinvolves multiple stages. It is highly recommended that candidates prepare for Tier 2 and the Skill Test simultaneously with their Tier 1 preparation to avoid significant disadvantages later.

SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam Pattern

  • Nature: This tier is qualifying in nature, meaning its marks are not included in the final merit list.

  • Structure:

  • General Intelligence (Reasoning): 25 Questions (50 Marks)

  • General Awareness: 25 Questions (50 Marks)

  • Quantitative Aptitude (Maths): 25 Questions (50 Marks)

  • English Language: 25 Questions (50 Marks)

  • Total: 100 Questions, 200 Marks.

  • Negative Marking: There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer.

  • Target Score: An unreserved category candidate should aim for a score of 155+ to ensure qualification.

SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

  • Nature: Merit is determined based on performance in this tier.

  • Merit-Based Sections: The final merit list will be prepared based on a total of 360 marks from these sections:

  • Section 1: Mathematical Abilities (30 Questions) & Reasoning (30 Questions)

  • Section 2: English Language (40 Questions) & General Awareness (20 Questions)

  • Qualifying Sections:

  • Computer Knowledge Test: This section is qualifying in nature, and its marks are not added to the final merit score.

  • Skill Test / Typing Test: This is also qualifying in nature.

SSC CHSL Subject-Wise Detailed Syllabus

Candidates preparing for the SSC CHSL exam should have knowledge of the syllabus topics along with the exam pattern. Candidates can get the questions from Quantitiative Aptitude, Reasoning, English General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge. 

Quantitative Aptitude (Maths)

  • Core Arithmetic: Number System (Memory Tip: Master the Number System completely, as if you've dissolved and consumed it), Whole Numbers, Decimals, Fractions, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Square Roots, Averages, Interest (Simple & Compound), Profit & Loss, Discount, Partnership, Mixture & Allegation, Time & Distance.

  • Advanced Maths: Algebra, Geometry (Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism), Mensuration, Trigonometric Identities, Statistics & Probability.

General Intelligence (Reasoning)

Topics include Symbolic/Number/Figural Analogy, Space Orientation, Semantic/Symbolic/Number Classification, Venn Diagrams, Drawing Inferences, Figural Series, Embedded Figures, and Critical Thinking. A recently added and important topic to focus on is Machine Input.

English Language

  • Core Components: Vocabulary, Grammar, Sentence Structure.

  • Topics: Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/Homonyms, Antonyms, Idioms & Phrases, Sentence Improvement, Active/Passive Voice, Direct/Indirect Speech, Cloze Test, Comprehension Passage.
