TNEA Counselling 2026: The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu, has officially commenced the engineering admission lifecycle with the release of the TNEA 2026 Rank List on July 1, 2026. This year, an impressive 2,36,017 candidates have found a place on the state merit list, competing for high-demand seats across 440 participating engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. Notably, 53 candidates achieved a perfect engineering cutoff score of 200/200, highlighting the highly competitive nature of the admissions cycle.
TNEA 2026 tentative counselling schedule has been published. The certificate verification was held from June 8–29, 2026, and the rank list was released on June 29, 2026; grievance redressal ran June 30–July 4, 2026, with subsequent counselling rounds (special categories, general rounds and supplementary rounds) to follow as per the official timeline.

Sports quota: 7,981 candidates applied, while the rank list was released for 3,210 candidates.
Ex-servicemen category: 1,176 candidates applied.
Persons with Disabilities (PwD): 500 candidates applied.

Admissions are entirely automated and conducted online via the official portal at tneaonline.org. The post-rank list selection sequence follows these steps:
1. Grievance Rectification (If Required):
Log in to your account between July 1 and July 6, 2026, to check for any discrepancies in your rank allotment. Submit rectifications if your Class 12 re-evaluation marks are not updated.
2.Round-Wise Choice Filling:
Based on your merit rank, you will be assigned to a specific counselling round. When your round opens (starting July 20, 2026), log in to add your preferred engineering branches and colleges.
3. Locking Preferences:
Prioritise your entries carefully. After organizing your selection list, lock your choices before the round's closing time. Unlocked choices will automatically freeze based on the last saved layout.
4. Seat Allotment & Confirmation:
DoTE will release a tentative seat allotment based on merit, category, and preference order. Candidates must choose to Accept & Join, Accept & Upward, or Decline within the specified response window.
To participate in the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions seat allotment, applicants must pay the processing fees online according to their category:
General / OBC / BC / BCM / MBC & DNC Candidates: ₹500
SC / SCA / ST Candidates: ₹250
Special Reservation Categories (Additional fee if applicable): ₹100 per category
Note: The counselling registration fee is strictly non-refundable and must be processed via Internet Banking, Credit/Debit cards, or official UPI gateways.
TNEA does not conduct a separate entrance examination. Admissions are based on a normalized engineering cutoff calculation out of 200 marks, derived from Class 12 public board examination results.
The formula scales core subject scores as follows:
TNEA Cutoff = Mathematics Score (out of 100) + Physics Score (out of 100)/2 + Chemistry Score (out of 100)/2
Tier-1 Institutes (CEG, MIT, PSG Tech): Closing thresholds typically range from 195 to 200 marks.
Tier-2 Top-Ranked Private & Govt-Aided Colleges: Cutoffs generally settle between 185 to 195 marks.
Regional Engineering Campuses: Seats remain accessible for candidates scoring between 160 to 180 marks.
