BPSC Negative Marking Rules Changed: The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has informed the candidates regarding the changes made in the MCQ question format. BPSC has added option E in the mandatory marking system. Candidates need to attempt all the questions to avoid the negative marking for skipping a question is worth ⅓ mark in the exam. They can mark the option E as that option signifies the “not attempted” option in the exam. No marks will be deducted. BPSC Negative Marking Rules have been implemented in the exams.
The BPSC has confirmed that this updated system, including the new Option E rule, will be introduced in the upcoming 33rd Bihar Judicial Services Preliminary Test (PT). This significant examination is slated for June 3, 2026. Recognising that this is a novel procedure and candidates might require time to adapt, the commission is providing compensatory time specifically for this examination. This measure aims to help candidates familiarise themselves with the new format and mitigate any initial difficulties they might face.
Specific details regarding the compensatory time have been outlined for the 33rd Bihar Judicial Services PT:
For Paper 1, which has a duration of 90 minutes (1.5 hours), an additional 10 minutes of compensatory time will be provided.
For Paper 2, also a 90-minute paper, an additional 15 minutes of compensatory time will be granted.
The BPSC has issued a clear disclaimer regarding this special provision for compensatory time. The commission states that the arrangement for extra time will not be effective in future examinations conducted by the BPSC. Therefore, candidates should not use this as a basis for upcoming examinations.
Faculty observations suggest that marking Option E on the OMR sheet for a substantial number of unattempted questions can be quite time-consuming. Based on current mock test experiences, some candidates are reportedly spending upwards of 15 minutes solely on this task. This highlights the importance of practising the new marking procedure to manage time effectively during the actual exam.
