Educational Qualification

• Subedar (Ministerial) Stenographer: Passed Higher Secondary (10+2); Hindi Shorthand test passed at 100 words per minute speed from a recognised board/polytechnic/ITI; valid CPCT certificate with Hindi typing; and a recognised Diploma in Computer Application (DOEACC / COPA from ITI / Modern Office Management / UGC-recognized Diploma).

• Assistant Sub Inspector (Ministerial): Passed Higher Secondary (10+2); valid CPCT certificate with Hindi typing; and an Engineering Degree / MCA / BCA / M.Sc (CS/IT) OR Polytechnic Diploma OR DOEACC Diploma OR 1-year COPA certificate OR Modern Office Management course OR UGC-recognized Diploma in Computer Application.

Age Limit (As of 08.10.2026)

• Unreserved Male (MP & Non-MP Domicile): 33 years

• Female Applicants (All Categories): 38 years

• Reserved Category Male (SC/ST/OBC of MP): 38 years

• Additional relaxations apply for Vikram Award winners (+5 years) and inter-caste marriage scheme couples (+5 years).

MPESB Subedar Steno, ASI Selection Process 2026 comprises the stages of the selection process for candidates. It includes the online written exam, document verification, practical test, and final merit list. 

• Phase 1 (Online Written Examination): A computer-based exam consisting of 100 objective questions.   Shortlisting: Candidates equal to 7 times the total advertised positions are called for the next stage based on cutoff percentiles.   

• Phase 2 (Document Verification & Practical Test): Scrutiny of original certificates followed by typing/shorthand practical tests supervised by the selection board. Minimum 30% marks are required to qualify in the practical test.   

• Final Merit List: Prepared by combining marks obtained in the written examination and the practical test.

• General Knowledge & Logical Knowledge (40 Marks): State, national, and international events, history, geography, polity, static facts, along with logical reasoning patterns.

• Intellectual Ability & Mental Aptitude (30 Marks): Analytical reasoning, data representation, coding-decoding, series, analogies, and mental aptitude questions.

• Science & Simple Arithmetic (30 Marks): Basic concepts of physics, chemistry, biology (up to 10th standard level), and elementary mathematics covering arithmetic operations, percentages, averages, time & work, and basic numerical capabilities.

• Mode: Computer-Based Test (Online MCQ)

• Duration: 2 Hours (120 minutes)

• Marking Scheme: +1 mark for each correct answer; no negative marking for incorrect or unattempted questions.

Phase 2 Practical Test Pattern

• Subedar Stenographer: Two Hindi shorthand dictations at 100 wpm (5 minutes each), followed by reading/editing time and 20 minutes of transcription time per dictation on a computer (100 total marks).

• ASI (Ministerial): Typing test containing two Hindi paragraphs of 600 words each (30 minutes per paragraph, 50 marks per paragraph, 100 total marks).
