The desert state of Rajasthan is not just known for its majestic forts and vibrant culture, but also for producing some of the finest administrative minds in India. Today, we are thrilled to announce PW's New Initiative: RAS Wallah—our dedicated category to help you navigate the prestigious Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) examination.
The Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) is the premier civil service of the state. Conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), it is the state-level equivalent of the IAS.
Success in this exam opens doors to influential roles such as:
Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) / Assistant Collector
Deputy Commissioner
Rajasthan Police Service (RPS)
Rajasthan Accounts Service (RACS)
The "Feeder" Motivation: One of the biggest draws for aspirants is the hierarchy. While RAS ranks below IAS, high-performing RAS officers are later promoted to the IAS through a state-federal quota—making it a direct path to the highest levels of Indian governance.
For a few years, the RPSC faced challenges regarding credibility. However, late 2025 marked a massive turning point for the commission.
In June 2025, Utkal Ranjan Sahoo, a seasoned 1988 batch IPS officer and former DGP, took the helm as Chairman. His tenure has already seen:
Stricter Verification: Rigorous checks on disability certificates and documentation during interviews to restore meritocracy.
Predictability: The issuance of an early 2026 exam calendar, allowing students to plan their preparation without the fear of sudden delays.
Structural Strength: The induction of three new commission members has cleared the backlog of long-pending interviews.
The RAS exam is a three-stage journey: Prelims, Mains, and the Interview.
