Achieving Rank 1 in UPPCS isn’t just about hard work—it requires clarity, discipline, and the ability to stay consistent even during setbacks. Neha Panchal’s journey shows how staying focused, learning from mistakes, and maintaining continuity can help overcome breaks in preparation and still lead to exceptional results.
With regular answer writing, a dedicated study approach, and continuous support from Physics Wallah, she was able to refine her strategy and stay on track. The focused guidance, practice-oriented learning, and consistency-driven approach at PW played a key role in helping her transform her preparation into a Rank 1 success.
Neha’s interest in civil services started early, but it wasn’t a straight path.
"Sir civil services ki tayari bhi jab main apne college mein thi socha to tab se hi tha… lekin beech mein kuch family problems aane ki wajah se nahi ho paya tha."
Even though she had the intention from college, personal challenges delayed her preparation.
"Shaadi ke baad maine socha ki ab apna try dete hain… governance ka part banna tha sir."
After marriage, she made a conscious decision to restart her journey with a clear purpose.
"Janna tha ki actually mein jo policy implementation hai wo hota kaise hai?"
Her curiosity about real-world governance became the driving force behind her preparation.
This clarity of purpose helped her stay focused even when things became difficult.
Neha’s preparation journey was shaped by her ability to learn from mistakes, focus on answer writing, and stay consistent despite challenges.
"Bahut saari galtiyan maine bhi ki… galtiyon se seekhne ke baad jo bhi mera experience hai wo batana chahungi."
She openly accepted her mistakes and used them as learning opportunities to improve her approach.
"Pehle mains tayyar kar le… kyunki maine ye galti ki thi ki maine pehle mains tayyar nahi kiya tha."
She realised the importance of preparing for Mains early and corrected her strategy accordingly.
"Mains ke liye aap zyada se zyada questions lagaye… answer writing is must… aapko karna hi karna hai."
Answer writing became the core of her preparation, helping her build clarity and structure in her answers.
"3 ghante baith ke likhna hi hai… chahe coaching mein ya room pe."
She trained herself to sit for long hours and practise writing under exam-like conditions.
Her approach was simple—focus on practice, improve gradually, and stay consistent.
"Jab aap apna pehla answer likhen wo bahut hi kharab hone wala hai… mujhe laga tha main nahi kar sakti."
She acknowledged that starting is always difficult and self-doubt is a natural part of the process.
"Jab aap baar-baar likhenge na… aapke dimaag mein achhe words aayenge."
With regular practice, her answer quality improved as she became more comfortable with expression.
"Kuch topics jaise urbanisation, globalisation, poverty… har saal question aata hai… intro conclusion ready rakhiye."
She used a smart strategy by preparing common topics in advance to save time during the exam.
Along with strategy and practice, managing time and staying consistent was equally important in her journey.
"Bahut zyada problem to thi definitely… lekin family ka support tha."
Balancing preparation with personal responsibilities was challenging, but family support helped her stay on track.
"Mujhe 7–8 ghante to nikalne hi hote the… focus wale hours."
She ensured that she studied with full focus, even if time was limited.
"Kabhi 12 ghante bhi ho jaate the… kabhi 4 ghante hi padh paati thi."
Her routine was not perfect every day, but she adapted according to the situation.
"Daily aapko continue rehna padega… chahe 3–4 ghante hi padho."
She believed that consistency matters more than long study hours.
This balanced approach of learning from mistakes, practising regularly, and staying consistent helped her steadily improve and move closer to her goal.
Physics Wallah played a key role, especially during her interview and Mains preparation.
"PW ka definitely an important role tha… mera interview guidance program tha."
She received dedicated guidance during the most critical stage.
"Sir ne mujhe bataya tha ki pace zyada ho raha hai… usko control kariye."
Personalised feedback helped her improve her interview performance.
"Paper 5 aur 6 ke liye jo PW OnlyIAS ki booklet thi… usse maine notes banaye."
She used PW resources effectively by converting them into her own notes. This helped her build a strong and reliable preparation base.
Even after all her preparation, Neha never imagined securing Rank 1.
"Rank 1 mujhe nahi lagta ki koi sochta hoga… maine to bas list mein naam aane ka socha tha."
Her goal was simple: just to clear the exam. At the time the result was declared, she wasn’t even waiting for it.
"Main Lucknow mein thi… next mains de rahi thi jab result aaya."
The moment unfolded unexpectedly.
"Jab maine dekha itne saare miss calls hain… tab laga kuch to hua hai."
That’s when she realised something big had happened.
"Bahut zyada unexpected tha sir… bahut zyada."
The result was overwhelming and difficult to process, but it became a life-changing moment with Rank 1.
Behind this unexpected success was a strong, self-driven mindset. Neha always believed that real motivation comes from within.
"Aapko apna motivation self lana padega ki aapne start kyun kiya tha."
Whenever things felt difficult, she went back to her “why.”
"Jab bhi lage ki nahi ho raha… wapas jaake socho start kyun kiya tha."
She clearly understood the difference between temporary and lasting motivation.
"Wo videos se 1 ghante ka motivation aata hai… asli motivation aapko khud lana padega."
This mindset helped her stay consistent, focused, and grounded, ultimately turning a simple goal of clearing the exam into an extraordinary Rank 1 success.
Neha Panchal’s journey proves that success is not about perfect conditions; it’s about persistence, clarity, and consistency. From managing responsibilities as a mother to securing Rank 1 in UPPCS, she showed that with the right approach, continuous practice, and strong self-belief, even the toughest goals can be achieved.
