Jamia Millia Islamia PhD Admission Selection Procedure

For the upcoming session, the exact admission process will be notified shortly. However, for the previous session, the admission process was as follows:

1. All Ph.D. applicants were admitted through an Entrance Test conducted at the University level. This was followed by an Interview at the level of the individual Department/Centre/Faculty concerned. Shortlisted applicants from the entrance and exempted categories were called for an interview.

2. Certain categories of candidates were exempted from taking the entrance test for the Ph.D. program. These categories included:

• Candidates who had qualified UGC/CSIR-NET/AYUSH-NET/JRF examination in the relevant area of research, or any other equivalent examination recognized by the concerned DRC/CRC, or had a valid GATE score with qualifying marks.
• Teacher fellowship holders such as QIP (Quality Improvement Programme) awardees of recognized colleges/universities/institutions, provided they had a 'No Objection Certificate' (NOC) issued by the competent authority to join the Ph.D. program. Applicants in this category had to pass any type of test to avail the exemption.
• ICCR-sponsored candidates, DST-INSPIRE fellows, or any other equivalent fellowship holders.
• Candidates possessing an M.Phil. degree with 55% marks from a recognized Indian University/Institute of a minimum of two semesters or its equivalent degree from a foreign educational institute were also eligible for direct Ph.D. admission, provided they had done the M.Phil. degree in the same subject as per UGC norms.
