Applicants must hold a Master’s Degree from a UGC-recognised university or institution.
General, Unreserved, and General-EWS candidates need a minimum of 55% marks (without rounding off).
Scheduled Caste (SC) of H.P., Scheduled Tribe (ST) of H.P., Other Backwards Classes (Non-creamy layer) of H.P., and Persons with Disability (PWD) of H.P. candidates require at least 50% marks (without rounding off).
Candidates currently pursuing their Master's degree or awaiting final year results can apply provisionally. They must complete their P.G. Degree within two years from the SET result date with the required percentage.
Ph.D. Degree holders who completed their Master's level examination by September 19, 1991, receive a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks (from 55% to 50%).
Candidates should appear in the subject matching their post-graduation.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
There is no upper age limit for the HP SET.
Indian citizenship is required. Reservations and relaxations apply only to Himachal Pradesh domiciles in SC/ST/OBC/PWD categories; others fall under the general category.
The HP SET is a minimum eligibility condition for Assistant Professor recruitment. Certain candidates are exempted from this requirement.
Candidates awarded a PhD. Degrees as per the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award for PhD Degree) Regulations, 2022, are exempted from NET/SET for Assistant Professor appointments.
SET-qualified candidates prior to June 1, 2002, are exempt from NET and can apply for Assistant Professor positions nationwide.
SET-qualified candidates from June 1, 2002, onwards are eligible to apply only in Universities/Colleges within the state from where they cleared their SET.
There is no age limit, and candidates can appear in the SET multiple times.
