MH SET Eligibility Criteria 2026

Fulfilling the MH SET Eligibility 2026 criteria is mandatory for all applicants. These requirements cover educational qualifications, age limits, nationality, and the number of attempts permitted.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree or equivalent qualification recognized by the UGC, specifically in a subject relevant to the SET.

  • General category candidates need a minimum of 55% marks in their Master's degree.

  • Reserved category candidates (OBC/SBC/DT(VJ)/NT (non-creamy layer), SC/ST/Trans genders/PwD/Orphans) must secure at least 50% marks in their Master's degree.

  • Applicants can only appear for the MH SET in the subject of their Post Graduation.

  • Candidates who have previously qualified SET in a particular subject are not eligible to re-appear for the exam in the same subject.

  • Students in their final year of a Master's program can apply provisionally. They must clear their Master's with the required percentage within two years of the SET result publication.

  • Those in the first year or first two semesters of a Master’s course are not eligible.

  • Post-graduate diplomas or certificates from Indian or foreign universities require equivalence verification by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Age Limit

There is no upper age limit specified for applying to the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test.

Nationality & Domicile

Applicants must be Indian citizens. Only domicile holders of Maharashtra and Goa are eligible for reservation benefits. Other applicants must apply under the General category.

Number of Attempts

There is no restriction on the number of attempts for the MH SET examination. However, once a candidate qualifies in a subject, they cannot attempt the exam again for that specific subject.
