UGC NET 2026 Exam Day Instructions: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is all set to conduct the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) June 2026 examination starting from June 22, 2026. As one of the most competitive national-level exams for Assistant Professorship and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), candidates must thoroughly understand the protocol to ensure a hassle-free experience at the test center.
To help you avoid any last-minute panic or accidental disqualification, we have compiled a comprehensive list of UGC NET 2026 Exam Day Instructions, strictly based on the latest NTA guidelines.
Candidates appearing for UGC NET 2026 must strictly follow official exam day instructions to avoid candidature cancellation. The National Testing Agency (NTA) mandates reporting to the centre two hours before the exam starts for frisking and biometric verification, with registration closing 30 minutes prior. Check the detailed instructions below-
Candidates must carry a specific set of items to the examination hall. Failing to produce any of the following documents will result in entry refusal:
Printed Copy of UGC NET 2026 Admit Card: Download your hall ticket from the official NTA website (ugcnet.nta.nic.in). Ensure that the printout is clear, and do not forget to fill out the self-declaration (undertaking) form completely beforehand, except for the signature, which must be done in front of the invigilator.
Passport-Sized Photographs: Carry additional passport-sized color photographs (the same ones uploaded during the application form submission). These will be pasted onto the official attendance sheet inside the examination room.
Valid Government-Issued Photo ID Proof: Bring an original, physical, and valid photo identity card. Photocopies or digital IDs on phones (like DigiLocker screenshots) will not be accepted. Allowed ID cards include:
Aadhaar Card (With photograph) / E-Aadhaar
PAN Card
Driving License
Voter ID Card
Passport
Ration Card with photograph
PwD / PwBD Certificate (If Applicable): Candidates claiming relaxation or requiring a scribe under the Person with Disability category must carry their official certificate issued by a competent authority.
Personal Transparent Water Bottle & Hand Sanitiser: You may carry a clear, unlabelled water bottle for hydration.
The NTA enforces a zero-tolerance policy against unfair means and cheating. The exam centers will not have a baggage counter or safe-keeping facilities, so candidates are strongly advised not to bring the following items:
Electronic Gadgets: Mobile phones, smartwatches, fitness bands, calculators, Bluetooth devices, earphones, microphones, pagers, or health bands.
Stationery Items: Textual materials, notebooks, pieces of paper, geometry/pencil boxes, plastic pouches, log tables, writing pads, geometry instruments, or electronic pens. (A pen and blank sheets for rough work will be provided inside the lab).
Personal Belongings: Handbags, wallets, purses, belts, sunglasses, or keys.
Food Items: Any open or packed food items (exceptions are made for diabetic candidates, who may carry fruits like bananas/apples or transparent sugar tablets with prior permission).
To fast-track the mandatory security checks and metal detector screening, follow these basic dress code guidelines:
Footwear Rules: Footwear with thick soles and garments with large buttons are strictly restricted. Prefer wearing simple slippers, low-heeled sandals, or flat shoes.
Clothing Guidelines: Wear light, comfortable clothing. Avoid clothes with too many pockets, complex embroidery, or metallic layers/chains that could trigger the metal detector.
Jewellery and Ornaments: Avoid wearing any metallic ornaments or jewellery such as rings, earrings, nose pins, necklaces, bracelets, or amulets.
Cultural/Religious Attire: Candidates who wear specific cultural or religious attire (such as a Kirpan, Hijab, or Kara) must report to the exam center at least two hours early to facilitate thorough and respectful manual frisking.
Candidates must follow the rules given below-
Verify Your Subject Paper: Once you are seated at your allotted computer node, check that the question paper appearing on the screen matches the specific UGC NET subject you opted for in your application form. In case of any discrepancy, immediately notify the room invigilator.
Rough Work Protocol: Blank sheets of paper will be provided for your calculation work. You must clearly write your name and roll number at the top of the sheet. Before leaving the examination hall, this sheet must be dropped into the designated drop box.
Biometric Verification: Do not leave your seat until your biometric verification (fingerprint and photograph capture) and attendance formalities are completed. Leaving the seat without permission before the final whistle will be treated as an unfair means case.
Strict Anti-Cheating Norms: Attempting to look at another candidate's screen, impersonation, or allowing someone else to sit for your exam will lead to the immediate cancellation of your results, a permanent ban from future NTA exams, and potential legal action.
To ensure smooth security checks, biometric registration, and mandatory frisking, the NTA requires candidates to reach the exam center well in advance. The registration desk closes exactly 30 minutes before the commencement of the exam. Absolutely no entry will be allowed after the gate closing time.
