UGC NET Hindi Literature Topper Akshay Jain’s Journey to 99.89 Percentile and JRF with PW

Akshay Jain’s UGC NET Hindi Literature journey is an example of how focused preparation can make a difference even when you have limited time. Before preparing for UGC NET, Akshay had spent around three years preparing for UPSC Civil Services. He completed his BSc in Mathematics in 2022 and later decided to pursue an MA in Hindi.

He appeared for UGC NET Hindi Literature for the first time in June 2026. His preparation time was limited, but he focused on understanding the syllabus, analysing previous-year questions, and preparing short, structured notes. His strategy helped him improve his Paper 2 score and eventually secure 99.89 percentile and JRF.

His journey also shows why knowing the syllabus is not enough. The way you revise, make notes, and analyse PYQs can have a major impact on your preparation.

From UPSC Preparation to UGC NET Hindi Literature

Akshay did not begin his academic journey with Hindi Literature. His graduation was in Mathematics, after which he spent three years preparing for UPSC Civil Services. When that did not bring the result he expected, he decided to pursue an MA in Hindi and gradually started preparing for UGC NET.

Talking about his background and the limited time he had for UGC NET preparation, Akshay said:

“Sir actually main pichhle teen saal se UPSC CSC ki preparation kar raha tha. To sir mera 2022 mein mera graduation, BSc in Mathematics, complete ho gaya tha. Uske baad maine full-fledged UPSC ki taiyari kari, but sir mujhe wahan par itni khaas safalta nahi mili. Phir maine MA in Hindi karne ka decide kiya aur abhi sir, just jis din mera JRF ka exam tha, tab mere masters ke exam chal hi rahe the uske beech mein. Aur sir, iske alawa maine itna zyada time is preparation mein consume nahi kar paya, lekin phir bhi sir maine strategy ke saath taiyari kari aur mera JRF qualify ho gaya.”

His first UGC NET attempt came in June 2026. Even then, he had very little dedicated preparation time. However, his earlier UPSC preparation helped him approach the syllabus in a structured way rather than trying to study everything randomly.

Akshay Used PYQ Analysis to Improve His Score

Akshay’s biggest focus during his preparation was understanding what the UGC NET syllabus actually demanded. Instead of trying to read everything in detail, he first went through the syllabus and then started analysing previous-year questions.

He explained:

“Sir first of all ek to maine bahut lambe time ya long duration preparation kari nahi hai. Maine first time UGC NET ka exam diya tha June 2026 mein. Us samay pe sir maine 13 November ko UPSC EPFO ka exam diya tha aur kuch reason se main out of the city chal gaya tha to mujhe 15 se 20 din hi mile the padhne ke liye.”

His first attempt gave him 192 marks, which was only a few questions short of the JRF requirement for his category. This gave him a clear idea of where he needed to improve.

For his next attempt, he dedicated around one month specifically to JRF preparation. He first went through the syllabus and then analysed five years of PYQs.

The result was visible in his Paper 2 performance. Earlier, he had around 50 questions correct. This time, he reached 73 correct questions and scored 146 marks in Paper 2.

This improvement came from not just solving PYQs but analysing them. Akshay used the questions to identify repeated themes and add important information to his notes.

How PW Helped Akshay Build a Structured Preparation Strategy

Akshay’s preparation was based on short notes, PYQs and repeated revision. His experience with systematic learning also helped him avoid spending unnecessary time trying to cover the entire syllabus in depth.

He explained how he created his notes using the Hindi Literature syllabus:

“To sir maine pehle number to ek baar syllabus go through kiya aur maine sir PYQ lagane shuru kiye aur PYQ ko maine analyse kiya. Maine sir pichhle paanch saal ke PYQ achhe se analyse kiye.”

He then gave an example from the Hindi story section. Instead of writing everything about every story, he created a compact format containing the most important information.

“To sir maine kya kiya? Pehle number jitni bhi Unit 7 mein kahaniyan hain sir maine is tareeke se ek page pe main aapko shayad dikh nahi pa raha hoga. Lekin main koshish kar raha hoon. To sir, maine ek page pe saari kahaniyan inko likha. Maine usmein ek jagah likha rachna, ek jagah likha lekhan varsh, phir uske baad maine likha lekhak ka naam, kaun si patr ya patrika mein prakashit hui thi kahani, kaun sa kahani sangrah hai aur rachnakar ka janm kab hua tha.”

This method helped him connect different parts of the syllabus. He also used information from PYQs to make his notes more useful.

“Aur maine PYQ kiye hue the to mujhe jo bhi point PYQ mein dikhta tha, to main usko apne notes mein add kar leta tha. To sir isse mujhe kaafi edge mila hai.”

His approach shows how PW UGC NET supported learning; combined with self-study and PYQ analysis, it helped him create a preparation system suited to his limited time.

Akshay Kept His Notes Short for Faster Revision

For Akshay, making notes did not mean rewriting the books. His focus was on creating notes that could be revised quickly before the examination.

He kept the notes for each unit to a limited number of pages and also prepared a short preface for every unit. This made his final revision much faster.

Akshay said:

“Aur uske baad sir apne jo khud ke notes hain sir wo itne crisp hona chahiye. Mere har unit ke maximum sir saat se aath page mein notes hain. Aur maine har unit ka ek preface bhi bana ke rakha hai. To like jaise sir jis din exam tha us din main sir aadha ghante mein apni saat aath unit ka revision main aadha ghante mein karke chala gaya.”

This was one of the strongest parts of his strategy. Instead of spending the final hours reading large books, he could revise his own notes in a short time.

His preparation also relied heavily on multiple revisions. According to Akshay, solving five years of previous-year papers could itself lead to repeated revision of a large part of the syllabus.

He explained:

“Lekin sir wahan iska matlab nahi hai ki hum paper mein kitna performance kar rahe hain. Usmein sir baar-baar multiple revision ka poora matlab hai. Kyunki 5 saal mein sir kam se kam 12 se 13 shift to minimum hongi kyunki iske pehle shift-wise paper hota tha. To sir agar 12 se 13 paper apan ne achhe se revise kar liye hain, to sir hamare poore syllabus ka kam se kam chaar se paanch baar revision ho jaata hai.”

For Akshay, revision was not something to do only at the end. It was built into his PYQ practice.

Akshay Tackled the Toughest Hindi Literature Unit With Short Notes

Akshay considered the unit on Indian and Western literary theory one of the toughest sections of the Hindi Literature syllabus. Instead of avoiding it, he divided the unit into smaller parts and created focused notes.

He said:

“Sir ye jo Kavyashastra wali unit hai sir wo mere hisaab se sabse tough unit mere liye bhi hai aur most of the students ke liye bhi hai.”

He divided the unit into Indian and Western literary theory and created notes covering important authors, works, dates and concepts.

“Maine sir jaise ye hai Unit 3, Unit isko maine sir do parts mein baanta. Ek to Pashchatya Kavyashastra, ek Bharatiya Kavyashastra.”

For the Indian literary theory section, he focused on authors, their works and related information. For the Western section, he focused on understanding basic concepts.

He also created a separate page for important statements because he noticed that such statements were useful for answering UGC NET questions.

“Sir yahan par mera strongly maanna hai ki agar aap ek page par agar aap 25 statements note kar lo to more or less sir usi se question aate hain.”

This approach helped him turn a difficult unit into a manageable section of his revision plan.

Akshay Balanced Paper 1 With a Strong Paper 2

Akshay’s result also shows why preparation should not always be about trying to score perfectly in every section. His Paper 1 score dropped in this attempt, but his strong Paper 2 preparation helped him balance the overall result.

He shared:

“Sir, is baar mera score kaafi drop hua hai. Mere 28 marks 28 question sahi hue hain. Pichhli baar 38 tha.”

Despite getting only 28 questions correct in Paper 1, he qualified for JRF because of his strong performance in Paper 2.

This became possible because he had focused sharply on his subject preparation and understood that the ultimate goal was to qualify for JRF rather than attempt every question perfectly.

His preparation therefore followed a simple principle: understand where you can score, revise those areas repeatedly, and avoid spreading your time too thin.

Akshay’s 99.89 Percentile Result Shows the Value of Smart Study

Akshay’s UGC NET Hindi Literature result came after a preparation period that was much shorter than what many aspirants may expect. His journey from UPSC preparation to an MA in Hindi and then UGC NET shows how previous learning experience can be used in a new examination.

His strategy centred on three key areas: structured study, concise notes, and PYQ analysis.

His advice to other Hindi Literature aspirants was equally focused:

“Sir sabse bada motivation to hamara subject hi hai, kyunki ek to Hindi Literature itna interesting subject hai ki sir ye life mein bhi bada kaam mein aata hai aur sir interesting bhi hai. To sir, bachche thoda sa structured way mein taiyari karein. Multiple times PYQ ko solve karein.”

He also stressed the importance of practising PYQs until familiar patterns become easy to recognise.

“Lekin itne zyada baar PYQ solve karein ki jab hum paper mein question dekhein to humein dekh ke question ye lage ki yaar ye to mera kiya hua question hai.”
