Abhay Kumar Singh has secured 250 marks, 99.77 percentile and JRF in the UGC NET 2026 Geography exam. His result came after an earlier attempt in which he had narrowly missed the qualifying mark, giving him a clear indication of the areas he needed to strengthen.

While pursuing his Master’s at the Delhi School of Economics and working on his dissertation, Abhay continued preparing for UGC NET. This time, he focused on strengthening his subject foundation, revising his PW Daily Class Notes and practising questions through PYQs and mock tests. His journey offers a closer look at how he refined his preparation and stayed focused while managing his academic commitments.

Abhay Kumar Singh Continued His Preparation After His First UGC NET Attempt

Abhay’s UGC NET journey started with an earlier attempt while he was pursuing his Master’s. He had taken paid classes from PW during his first preparation and continued using the study material provided through the platform.

He recalled:

“Aur ye mera like serious second attempt tha to first attempt bhi maine first attempt mein hi maine PW se paid classes li thi to us time main Masters ke second year mein tha.”

His first attempt was close to the cutoff, which motivated him to continue his preparation instead of starting over completely. He kept revising the lecture notes, daily class notes and other study material that he had received during his preparation.

“To bahut margin se hi wo ruk gaya tha to but maine wahi aapne jitne saare notes provide kiye the, lecture notes, class daily notes, wo app pe milta rehta tha, Telegram pe content aate rehte the to wo main revise karta rehta tha.”

How PW Helped Abhay Kumar Singh Strengthen His Geography Preparation

PW played an important role in Abhay’s preparation by providing him with regular study material and revision resources. Since he was also managing his college workload and dissertation, the ready-to-use daily class notes were especially useful for him.

Abhay explained how he used the notes provided by PW:

“To aapke sir jo daily class notes upload hoti thi jo PDF format mein type format mein rehti thi. Haan, wo bahut useful thi. Main roz ka roz usko print kara leta tha.”

He did not prepare separate handwritten notes because of his academic workload. Instead, he printed the PW Daily Class Notes and kept them organised for revision.

“End aakhri mein wo mere paas abhi rakhi hui hai yahan pe. Are bundle ban gaya hoga uska collection. Wo sir maine bind kara ke rakhi saari. And wo main revise karta rehta tha.”

This approach helped Abhay maintain a consistent set of study material while balancing his UGC NET preparation with his Master’s workload.

Abhay Kumar Singh Built His Preparation Around Standard Geography Books

Abhay focused on building a strong foundation before moving towards extensive practice. He believed that a clear understanding of the subject was important because UGC NET Geography also tests memory along with conceptual knowledge.

He shared:

“Sir do teen cheez maine apne preparation mein find out ki jo bahut important lagi mujhe jo har bachche ko karni chahiye jo main feel karta hoon. Like first of all ki aapka foundation bahut achha rehna chahiye is exam ke liye.”

For his preparation, Abhay referred to standard books for different Geography topics. He mentioned books by Savindra Singh for areas such as Geomorphology, Climatology and Oceanography, along with Majid Husain and D.R. Khullar for Indian Geography.

He first went through these standard resources to build his subject coverage and then focused on practice and revision.

“To ye saari standard book maine ek baar go through kiye ki ek content mujhe mil jaaye.”

Abhay Kumar Singh Used PYQs, Mocks and Free Sessions for Regular Practice

Abhay believed that regular practice was important for UGC NET Geography. Along with studying the syllabus, he focused on solving previous-year questions and attempting mock tests.

He said:

“To ek cheez maine notice ki ki aap jitna zyada practice karoge, jitna zyada PYQ lagao, mock lagao, jitni zyada test do to wo bahut beneficial rehta hai.”

He also used free sessions available on YouTube whenever he had time. According to Abhay, regularly seeing questions helped him stay connected with the subject and retain information.

“To main khana bhi kha raha hota hoon to wo dekhta rehta hoon aur aur bahut saare bhi sources hai, bahut saare free platforms hai jo aise videos daalte rehte hain YouTube pe to content bahut saara hai.”

His strategy was not limited to passive study. He combined content coverage with repeated question practice so that he could improve his recall and exam readiness.

Abhay Kumar Singh Scored 250 Marks and Secured 99.77 Percentile

Abhay scored 250 marks in UGC NET June 2026 Geography and secured 99.77 percentile along with JRF. His score was above the 242-mark EWS cutoff mentioned during the interview.

When asked about his score, Abhay confirmed:

“250 sir exactly 250.”

His achievement came after an earlier attempt in which he had narrowly missed the qualifying mark. His second attempt reflected a more focused approach based on strong fundamentals, standard resources, repeated revision and regular practice.

Abhay Kumar Singh Overcame Self-Doubt With Family and Friends’ Support

Preparing for UGC NET for another attempt came with its own challenges. Abhay also spoke about the self-doubt that can come after appearing for the exam more than once, especially when the previous attempt falls short by a small margin.

He shared:

“Aur kabhi na kabhi aise to self-doubt khud pe aata hi hai ki ye exam mere se hoga nahi hoga aur specially jab aap do baar de chuke ho aur kuch kuch marks se NET reh ja raha hai phir to hai to phir wo lagta hai.”

His parents and friends continued to support him throughout the preparation. His parents encouraged him to attempt the exam again without putting pressure on him to immediately choose another path.

“But wo hai ki mere parents bahut supportive the. Ismein unhone bola ki nahi nahi tum do aur kisi cheez ke baare mein nahi sochna hai.”

He also received help from his friends whenever he needed additional notes or faced difficulty with a topic.

“Friends bhi the to kabhi bhi kisi topic mein mujhe dikkat ho, notes kisi extra notes chahiye ho to overall ek bahut badhiya supportive environment tha.”

Abhay Kumar Singh Plans to Pursue a PhD After UGC NET JRF

With his Master’s completed, Abhay now plans to continue his academic journey. He is in touch with his professors and hopes to begin his PhD soon.

Talking about his future plans, he said:

“Ji sir, ab Masters complete ho gaye aur main apne professors ke touch mein hoon. Main bhi hopefully PhD bhi start kar paun.”

His UGC NET JRF qualification can support his plans to continue in academics and pursue research in the field of Geography.

Abhay Kumar Singh’s Advice for UGC NET December 2026 Aspirants

Abhay believes that aspirants preparing for the next UGC NET cycle should stay confident and remain honest with their preparation. He described UGC NET as an exhaustive exam that comes every six months and can create pressure among candidates.

His message for upcoming aspirants was:

“Sir waise dekha jaaye to ye exam hai kaafi zyada exhaustive hai aur har six month pe aata hai to ek panicness rehti hai hamare around.”

He encouraged students to focus on consistent effort rather than being overwhelmed by the exam.

“To confidence mein rehna hai, aap kar sakte ho. Aap bas ek cheez ka dhyan rakhna ki apne kaam se honest raho. Aap honestly padho. Jo bhi kaam kar rahe ho honestly karo. Aap honestly karoge to result bhi bahut achha milta hai.”
