What Does the UGC NET Qualification Status Mean?

The UGC NET scorecard can show different qualification outcomes. Candidates should understand the category mentioned against their result.

JRF and Assistant Professor

Candidates qualifying in this category are eligible for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor, subject to the applicable eligibility and recruitment rules.

Assistant Professor and PhD Admission

Candidates qualifying under this category can be considered eligible for Assistant Professor and PhD admission as per the applicable rules. However, this category does not provide JRF eligibility.

PhD Only

Candidates qualifying under the PhD-only category can use their UGC NET qualification for PhD admission, subject to the admission rules of the concerned university or institution.

UGC NET June 2026 Re-Exam for Three Subjects

Candidates who appeared for English, Commerce or Sociology should note that their results are not included in the current 84-subject result.

NTA has scheduled a re-examination for these three subjects on September 9 and 10, 2026. Their results and scorecards will be processed after the re-examination.

Candidates from these subjects may therefore be unable to access their result through the current login window. If a candidate sees an “Invalid Application Number/Password” type of message while trying to check the result before the re-exam, it does not necessarily mean that the candidate's credentials are incorrect.

Why UGC NET Result Is Available for 84 Subjects

The June 2026 UGC NET examination was conducted for a total of 87 subjects. However, NTA has released results for only 84 subjects at this stage because the examinations for English, Commerce and Sociology are being conducted again.

For the 84 subjects, NTA had made the question papers, recorded responses and provisional answer keys available earlier. Candidates were also given an opportunity to challenge the provisional answer key. After reviewing the challenges, the final answer keys were used for processing the results.

The results for the three re-examined subjects will be announced separately after completion of the re-examination process.

What Should Candidates Do After the UGC NET Result?

Candidates who have qualified should first check the qualification category mentioned on their scorecard. They should then keep their result and other academic documents ready for future use.

Candidates qualifying for JRF should follow the applicable fellowship and research-related requirements. Those qualifying for Assistant Professor can use their eligibility according to the recruitment rules of the concerned institution. Candidates qualifying for PhD admission should check the admission requirements of the universities where they wish to apply.

It is important to remember that qualifying UGC NET does not remove the requirement for document verification. Eligibility, certificates, declarations and other documents may be verified by the concerned authorities as per the applicable rules.
