Winners for 6th National Water Awards: The Jal Sanchay-Jan Bhagidari Awards and the Sixth National Water Awards were awarded at a special event in New Delhi on November 18, 2025, by Indian President Smt. Droupadi Murmu. The occasion honored remarkable achievements in water conservation, water efficiency, and community-driven projects that tackle India's expanding water problems.
President Murmu addressed India's established cultural respect for water in her speech. She emphasised how water supplies, like rivers and lakes, are holy in addition to being essential for living. She highlighted how water has always been highly valued in Indian civilization by using Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's national hymn, whose first line is "Sujalam" (abundantly watered).
The 6th National Water Awards, 2024 prize distribution event was held on November 18, 2025, at 11.30 am at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, according to the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR). One of the significant achievements emphasized at the occasion was the construction of nearly 35 lakh groundwater recharge structures as part of the Jal Sanchay-Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) program, which was launched only a year ago.
These buildings are essential components of artificial groundwater recharge, which aims to reverse groundwater depletion through community engagement. The President also praised businesses that have used circular water economy methods. Many have successfully implemented water recirculation and even attained zero liquid discharge, demonstrating how dedication and technology may result in efficient use of water resources.
The National Water Awards are given for three main reasons:
To Say Thank You: To say a big "Thank You" to all the people and organizations who are working hard to save water.
To Teach Others: To show the successful ways people are saving water so that others can copy their great ideas!
To Create Awareness: To remind everyone, including you, that water is precious and we must use it wisely every single day.
