Deeksha UPSC Journey: AIR 44 After Four Years of Preparation With PW

For UPSC aspirants, the journey to the final result can take years, with setbacks making the preparation even more challenging. Deeksha started her UPSC preparation in 2022 and faced a narrow setback when she missed the Mains qualification by 12 marks. Instead of stopping there, she continued her preparation and worked towards another attempt.

After four years of preparation, Deeksha finally secured AIR 44 in UPSC 2025. From moving past an earlier setback to appearing for the interview and finally reaching the final result, her journey reflects the challenges and persistence involved in a long UPSC preparation cycle.

How Deeksha Turned a 12-Mark Miss into an Interview Call

Her closest attempt before this was the one where she reached Mains but did not qualify. When asked about it, she was precise about the margin.

"Yes. By 12 marks."

Missing the cutoff by so few marks showed her how thin the line between success and failure can be. This time, she cleared Mains and reached the interview stage, where she described the experience as relaxed.

"And it was on the lighter note. No objective factual questions of history."

The interview did not become a factual test on her optional. It was more about her thinking, which gave her room to answer comfortably. The kind of questions she faced showed how she had prepared.

How PW's Guidance Supported Deeksha’s Journey

Some of her interview questions were about ideas rather than facts. They were situational and, in her words, quite predictable for someone who had prepared well.

"Yes. Very predictable situational questions."

She was part of PW's History optional program, and her mentor spoke about it after the result. He noted that several questions in this year's History paper, such as those on the French Revolution, came from topics covered in the program's classes, including historiography. Seeing questions you have already practised makes the paper easier to handle. He also pointed out that the program only helped, and the effort was hers. Deeksha herself drew a clear lesson from her four years.

"I think it's very important to be strategic in this exam and this is why guidance is very important"

For her, guidance was a way to stay strategic in an exam where a few marks decide the outcome. That mattered most given how narrowly she had missed before, and it stayed with her until the result arrived.

How Deeksha's Family Went from Doubters to Believers

When the result came, the change at home was easy to see. Her parents, who had stood by her through years of uncertainty, were now busy with congratulatory calls.

"They have been attending calls since yesterday"

She also described how the mood around her had shifted since the early years of her journey.

"Because during the initial phase everybody is a doubter; now everybody is a congratulator"

Her family had to be patient too, through the doubts about how long the attempts would continue. The result changed that, and it made the four-year wait feel worth it for everyone around her.

What Deeksha's Story Teaches Future Aspirants

Deeksha's journey shows that a delay does not mean the end of the road. She reached Mains, missed the cutoff by only 12 marks, and stayed with her preparation until she secured AIR 44 in 2025. 

Her experience suggests that being strategic and taking the right guidance can help in an exam decided by small margins, and that patience from both the aspirant and the family can make the difference.
