Physics Wallah helps simplify this process through dedicated courses and concept-focused learning. With this initial support, Rekha Siyak gradually built a disciplined preparation routine and strengthened her understanding, eventually securing AIR-176 in UPSC CSE 2024.
Before beginning UPSC preparation seriously, Rekha started thinking about the larger purpose behind civil services. Observing how administrators work on the ground made her realise that this career can influence people’s lives directly.
Seeing how district officials manage public welfare and deliver services to citizens made a strong impression on her. It helped her understand that civil services are not just about authority, but about responsibility and impact.
“Main Rajasthan se hoon. Mujhe pata tha ki wo Collector sir kya kar rahe hain. Kaise wo delivery kar rahe hain. Mujhe laga haan lives ko to chhoo sakta hai agar karna ho to.”
This thought slowly strengthened her motivation. The idea that a civil servant can create real change in people’s lives gave her the push to explore UPSC preparation more seriously.
Like many aspirants, Rekha’s early exposure to UPSC preparation began while simply trying to stay updated with current affairs. During the COVID-19 lockdown, when many students were exploring online learning, she came across Physics Wallah’s editorial discussions.
At first, she started watching them casually to understand the news better. But gradually, these sessions helped her connect daily events with larger national and social issues.
“Kuch to mere friends already prepare kar rahe the aur main aapka editorial analysis Covid ke time se hi sun rahi thi.”
These discussions made complex topics feel simple and approachable. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the depth of UPSC content, she found the explanations easy to follow and practical for beginners.
“Aapka editorial discussion bahut hi smooth aur easy tha, easy to understand tha. Kisi ko koi high-fi knowledge nahi chahiye aapka editorial samajhne ke liye.”
Because of this clarity, her interest in the exam started growing naturally.
Once Rekha began preparing more seriously, she realised that consistency with current affairs is extremely important for UPSC. To maintain this consistency, she made Physics Wallah’s daily initiatives a regular part of her routine.
These sessions helped her stay updated without feeling lost in the vast amount of information available online.
“Editorial analysis aur prelim booster dono initiative main subah uthte hi sabse pehle dekhti thi.”
“Aapka 12 o’clock ke around aata hai most of the time aur prelim booster apna 8 o’clock ke around aata hai.”
Over time, this habit helped her build a strong understanding of current affairs. Even if she missed something on a particular day, the coverage ensured that important topics were revisited later.
“Wo bahut hi holistically cover hota hai. Matlab wo prelim booster ho ya editorial analysis ho usme agar ek din aapka kuch chhoot bhi gaya na to wo definitely next din cover ho jata hai.”
Another advantage she noticed was how easily she could revise the same content before exams through compiled resources.
“Phir unke monthly compilation bhi aate hain, phir yearly compilation bhi aate hain… to revise bhi karna hai to bahut easy ho jata hai.”
These small routines helped her stay connected with the syllabus every single day.
As her preparation progressed, Rekha understood that having a focused course could help her manage the vast UPSC syllabus better. That is when she joined the PW OnlyIAS Foundation Batch in 2022.
The course helped her organise the static portion of the syllabus and provided study material that she could rely on as a single source.
“Foundation course ne mera poora static cover karwa diya tha aur static mein bhi saari booklet uske saath available thi.”
This approach reduced confusion and allowed her to focus on revision and improvement rather than constantly searching for new sources.
“To wo static apna ek comprehensive source ho gaya. Uske alawa jo bhi add-ons the, current affairs the, editorial analysis the ya prahar ya udaan ka jo content hai, maine apni static mein add kiya.”
Because of this focused preparation, she was able to clear the prelims with confidence.
“Us wajah se mera 2023 ka prelims bhi bahut achhe margin se clear hua.”
This moment reflects how consistent preparation and the right guidance began to show results in her journey. The clarity she developed during her preparation helped her approach the exam with confidence, which ultimately enabled her to clear the 2023 Prelims with a comfortable margin.
During her journey, Rekha also shared several important lessons for UPSC aspirants. These insights come from her own preparation experience and highlight how clarity, the right strategy, and consistent effort can make a significant difference in such a demanding exam.
One of the most important things she emphasised is that UPSC preparation should never begin because of social pressure. Since the journey is long and challenging, genuine interest and internal motivation are essential to sustain preparation over time.
“Society ke pressure mein aake nahi preparation karni chahiye. Khud se lage karni hai to karo.”
“Otherwise aadhe-adhoore mann se to waise bhi paisa waste, time waste hai.”
According to her, when the motivation is not strong enough, it becomes difficult to maintain focus and discipline throughout the preparation process.
Another key piece of advice she shared is that aspirants should thoroughly understand the UPSC syllabus before beginning their preparation. A clear understanding of the syllabus helps students know what the exam actually demands and whether they are genuinely interested in the subjects involved.
“Sabse pehle aap UPSC ka syllabus samjhein. Dhyaan se samjhein ki aapka sach mein isme interest hai kya.”
By analysing the syllabus and the nature of the exam first, students can make an informed decision about committing to the preparation journey. Once they are certain about their interest and dedication, they should move forward with full focus.
“Phir preparation start karo aur phir no way back hona chahiye.”
Rekha also believes that UPSC preparation does not always require extremely complicated strategies. In her experience, consistent study habits and honest effort play a far more important role than overly complex preparation methods.
“Bahut hi generic ekdum preparation thi aur jo honest mera opinion hai maine wo rakha hai.”
“Maybe usme kuch fancy na ho, but consistency aur hard work bilkul hai.”
Through these insights, she encourages aspirants to focus on clarity, commitment, and consistency rather than chasing complicated strategies. With the right mindset and steady effort, the UPSC journey becomes far more manageable and purposeful.
Rekha Siyak’s journey to UPSC AIR-176 reflects how steady effort, the right guidance, and consistent learning can shape success over time. From exploring the exam during the lockdown through Physics Wallah’s editorial analysis to strengthening her preparation with the OnlyIAS Foundation Course, she built her strategy step by step. Her story reminds aspirants that UPSC success often comes not from complicated methods but from discipline, clarity of purpose, and the determination to keep progressing every day.
