Tie-Breaking Criteria in UPSC CSE 2019

If two or more candidates secured the same aggregate marks in the Civil Services Examination 2019, UPSC followed these principles:

  1. The candidate securing higher marks in the compulsory papers and the Personality Test taken together was ranked higher.

  2. If the tie still remained, the older candidate was given the higher rank.

  3. If the tie continued, the candidate with higher marks in the compulsory papers was ranked higher.
