How the Process Works for a Candidate?

Candidates should know as how the face authentication system will work for them.

  • Arrival at Venue: Candidates will go through the standard document check (admit card and government-issued ID).

  • Live Capture: A specialized AI camera will capture a live image of the candidate.

  • Digital Comparison: The system uses "Liveness Detection" (checking for small movements like blinking) to ensure it is a real person and not a photo or video. It then instantly compares this live image with the registration records.

  • Speed & Efficiency: Verification takes only 8 to 10 seconds per candidate, significantly reducing the manual verification time and entry queues.

Important Guidelines For Candidates

Candidates should ensure to understand the guidelines related to the UPSC face authentication to avoid any issues at the test centre.

  • Photo Quality: A candidate must upload a clear, high-quality, and recent photograph. Avoid using any filters or heavy editing.

  • Physical Appearance: On exam day, a candidate should look like their application photo. For example, if the photo shows a beard, the candidate should avoid shaving it before the exam.

  • Backup Plan: If the face scan fails due to a technical error, the candidate will be verified using their fingerprint (Aadhaar-based) or a manual check by staff.

  • Security: These steps ensure that only the genuine candidate enters the hall, keeping the exam fair for everyone.

Benefits of Introducing the UPSC Face Authentication System

UPSC has launched the face authentication system for the candidates. It can help the candidates for a faster verification mode and avoid any chances of cheating the recruitment exams.

  •  It helps prevent impersonation ensuring that no one else can take the exam on behalf of a candidate.

  • The system allows for a quick and accurate way to verify a candidate at the exam center.

  • The process becomes transparent and fair for every candidate.

  • It brings UPSC exams up to date with modern digital standards and high-tech security practices.

  • The technology ensures that the exam remains trustworthy and that only the genuine candidate is selected.

UPSC Introduces Face Authentication for Candidate Verification FAQs

What is the new UPSC Face Authentication process for a candidate?

The Face Authentication system is a digital security step where a specialised camera at the exam centre captures a live image of the candidate. The live image is then instantly matched with the photograph that the candidate uploaded during the online application process to confirm their identity.

Is it mandatory for every candidate to undergo this verification?

Every candidate appearing for UPSC examinations is now required to undergo face authentication at the exam venue. This process is conducted in addition to the standard verification of the candidate's admit card and government-issued photo ID.

How much time will it take for a candidate to complete this check?

The process is designed to be very fast. During successful pilot tests, the system took only 8 to 10 seconds per candidate. This efficiency helps reduce long queues and ensures a smoother entry into the exam hall for every candidate.

What should a candidate do to ensure the system recognizes them?

A candidate must ensure that the photograph they upload to their application form is recent, clear, and of high quality. It is important that the candidate’s face is clearly visible and matches their current appearance to avoid any technical delays or mismatches during the live scan at the centre.
