World Hindi Day was first celebrated on January 10, 2006 , to mark the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference held in 1975 in Nagpur , India. This conference brought together over 100 representatives from 30 countries to discuss the global promotion of Hindi. Following it, Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh declared January 10 as Vishwa Hindi Diwas to encourage non-resident Indians and foreigners to appreciate Hindi as a global language.
