According to the official notification, the HPCL Selection Procedure will include a Computer Based Test, Group Task, Personal Interview, etc. which will be administered depending on the position requirement. Candidates who fulfill the requisite eligibility criteria will be called for the selection stages.
The merit list of the eligible aspirants will be prepared based on their performance in all the stages. Candidates must be well versed in the HPCL Selection Process 2024 to align their preparation strategy accordingly to ace the exam with a top score. The computer-based test for HPCL Engineer/Officer post will comprise objective-based questions consisting of two parts - General Aptitude consisting of English Language, Quantitative Aptitude Test & Intellectual test (Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation), and Technical / Professional Knowledge comprising of questions related to a specific discipline.
Each part will consist of 85 questions carrying 1 mark each. Moreover, a negative marking of 0.25 marks would be applicable for every wrong answer. The table shown below outlines the comprehensive exam pattern for your better understanding:

Candidates shortlisted in computer-based tests will be called for Group Tasks and/or Personal Interviews. In this stage, the interpersonal skills, academic knowledge, and technical understanding will be examined by the experts to review whether a candidate is fit for the job role. The stages in group tasks or interviews will depend on the requirements of the organization as per the number of applicants.
Upon successful completion of the group task or interview, shortlisted candidates will be called for the document verification phase. In this stage, candidates are required to carry original documents and certificates including educational mark sheets, domicile certificates, caste/category certificates, experience letters (if any), and identity proof. The authorities will verify all the documents and shortlist the applicants for further stages. Notably, candidates failing to produce the required documents leads to rejection of their candidature.
The shortlisted candidates shall be required to get their Pre-Employment Medical Examination at HPCL-nominated/ empaneled hospitals. The decision on medical fitness by HPCL’s Chief Medical Advisor would be final and binding on the candidate. Candidates are required to meet the required medical standards to ensure they are medically fit to perform the tasks for the job profile.
Upon completion of all the applicable stages, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited will publish the category-wise merit list of selected candidates for all the positions on the official website @hindustanpetroleum.com. The selected candidates will be called for appointment at various units and locations on specific dates.
The selected candidates will be required to complete the probation for one year from the date of joining. Upon successful completion of the Probation period, the officer will be considered for confirmation as per company policy.
A Retention Amount (Applicable only for Pay Scale of 50000-160000): An amount of Rs. 5000/- per month will be deducted as retention amount from the total emoluments for the first 6 months during the probation period for officers in Pay Scale of 50000-160000. The amount will be refunded to the officers only after their confirmation. The retention amount will be forfeited, in case the employee leaves the Corporation or on termination of service before the confirmation.
