The new MBBS syllabus, commonly known as the new MCI curriculum, superseded the old MBBS syllabus after 22 years. The NExT Exam 2024 syllabus is built on competencies. A health professional's competence is described as an observable capacity combining various elements, including knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes. The following are the significant adjustments to the MBBS syllabus that will impact NExT Exam 2024 syllabus:
  • Launch of a one-month foundation course at the start of the first year of medical school Students will become familiar with the setting of a medical college throughout this Foundation Course.
  • The MBBS curriculum, the Indian healthcare system, and medical ethics will all be introduced to them. The students will receive language instruction, time management, and communication skills training in this foundation course.
  • The Attitude, Ethics, and Communication (AETCOM) module is introduced. This will instill information, skills, attitudes, values, and responsiveness so that an MBBS graduate may perform responsibly and effectively as the community's primary care physician while remaining internationally relevant.
  • Removal of theoretical and practical components that were purely technical, more memory-based, and did not help MBBS students become effective primary healthcare providers to match NExT Exam 2024 requirements.
