  6. Explain why CuSO₄·5H₂O is blue in colour whereas anhydrous CuSO₄ is colourless.

  7. Write the names of the monomers of Bakelite and Teflon.

  8. Define a biodegradable polymer and give one example.

  9. Define a zwitter ion and give one example.

  10. Explain what tranquilizers are and give one example.

Section B: Short Answer Questions

  1. Explain Schottky and Frenkel defects.

  2. Explain relative lowering of vapour pressure and its use in determining the molar mass of a solute.

  3. Define emulsions and explain their classification.

  4. Write any two ores with formulae for aluminium and iron.

  5. Write the IUPAC names of the given coordination compounds, including the compounds shown in the paper.

  6. Explain denaturation of proteins and state what food preservatives are, with an example.

  7. Write the isomers of the compound having molecular formula C₄H₉Br and explain enantiomers.

  8. Explain the following reactions with equations: Hofmann bromamide degradation and Sandmeyer reaction.

Section C: Long Answer Questions

  1. Explain galvanic cells and the working of a galvanic cell with a neat sketch, taking the Daniell cell as an example. Also explain molecularity, distinguish it from the order of a reaction, and name one bimolecular and one trimolecular gaseous reaction.

  2. Explain in detail the manufacture of sulphuric acid by the contact process. Also explain the reactions of ammonia with ZnSO₄ (aq) and AgCl (s).

  3. Explain the following reactions with equations:

  • Kolbe's reaction

  • Reimer-Tiemann reaction

  • Williamson synthesis

  • Esterification
