Garv Goyal's CA Foundation Preparation Journey

Garv began his preparation immediately after registering with ICAI in December by enrolling in the Sampoorna 1.0 batch. Instead of waiting until after the Class 12 board examinations, he used the winter break to strengthen his Class 11 concepts and gradually build his Foundation preparation.

Once the board exams concluded, he shifted his complete attention to the CA Foundation syllabus and followed a disciplined routine of studying 12 to 13 hours every day. Despite having a relatively short gap between the board examinations and the Foundation exam, his systematic preparation enabled him to complete the syllabus on time.

According to Garv, maintaining consistency every day was more important than studying randomly for long hours.

Importance of Strong Class 11 and 12 Concepts

Garv believes that a solid understanding of Class 11 and 12 subjects significantly reduced his preparation time.

His school knowledge helped particularly in:

  • Accountancy

  • Applied Mathematics

  • Basic Business Concepts

For topics that were completely new or had been introduced specifically for the CA Foundation syllabus, he relied on detailed video lectures to build conceptual clarity before moving to revision.

Daily Study Routine

Garv followed a structured timetable throughout his preparation.

His routine included:

  • Studying for 12โ€“13 hours daily

  • Completing daily revision targets

  • Solving practice questions regularly

  • Attempting mock tests frequently

  • Reviewing mistakes immediately after every test

Rather than focusing only on completing the syllabus, he emphasized repeated revision and continuous practice.

Mock Tests Played a Major Role

One of the biggest contributors to Garv's success was his consistent mock test practice.

He regularly attempted full-length mock examinations and generally scored above 85%, which helped him:

  • Improve speed and accuracy

  • Build examination confidence

  • Identify weak topics early

  • Practice time management

Mock tests also prepared him for the actual examination environment and reduced exam-day pressure.

Subject-wise Preparation Strategy

Accountancy

Garv's strong Class 11 and 12 fundamentals made Accountancy comparatively easier. He revised concepts multiple times and practiced sufficient questions to improve accuracy.

Mathematics

For Mathematics, regular practice remained his priority.

He used revision sessions and one-shot lectures to quickly revisit important formulas and concepts before the examination, helping him strengthen problem-solving speed.

Economics

Garv considers Economics one of the most important subjects for CA Foundation aspirants. He initially completed the subject through detailed lectures in the Sampoorna batch and later revised the syllabus twice using one-shot revision sessions.

According to him, many students make the mistake of postponing Economics because they assume it is similar to the Economics taught in Classes 11 and 12. This often results in incomplete preparation and unnecessary pressure during the final revision phase.

His advice is to begin Economics preparation from the very beginning instead of leaving it until the end.

Why CA Foundation Economics Is Different from School Economics

During the interview, Garv highlighted that CA Foundation Economics differs considerably from the Economics syllabus taught in higher secondary education.

Some key differences include:

  • The CA Foundation syllabus introduces several completely new concepts.

  • Topics covered in great detail at the school level may appear only briefly in Foundation, while entirely new areas receive greater emphasis.

  • The examination requires conceptual understanding rather than simple textbook learning.

  • Students should approach CA Foundation Economics as a fresh subject instead of relying solely on school knowledge.

Because of these differences, beginning preparation early becomes essential.

Challenges Faced During Preparation

The biggest challenge Garv encountered was managing the limited time available between his Class 12 board examinations and the CA Foundation May attempt.

To overcome this challenge, he:

  • Started preparation early.

  • Avoided unnecessary breaks.

  • Followed a fixed daily schedule.

  • Focused on continuous revision.

  • Maintained consistency throughout the preparation period.

Garv Goyal's Advice for Future CA Foundation Aspirants

Garv shared several practical suggestions for students preparing for upcoming CA Foundation examinations:

  • Start preparation as early as possible.

  • Follow a disciplined and consistent study routine.

  • Give equal attention to every subject.

  • Never postpone Economics preparation.

  • Practice mock tests regularly.

  • Revise the syllabus multiple times before the examination.

  • Focus on conceptual clarity instead of rote learning.

According to Garv, consistent effort over several months ultimately produces the best results.
