The exam consists of subjects such as Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences. Each subject has a distinct number of multiple-choice questions (MCQs): Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Chemical Sciences, and Life Sciences each includes 75 MCQs, while Mathematical Sciences includes 60 MCQs, and Physical Sciences comprises 55 MCQs. The CSIR NET Exam Pattern consists of a three-hour paper divided into three sections - Part A, B, and C - with no break between them. The questions are all MCQs with four options, where only one option is correct. The marking scheme includes a negative marking system where 25% of the marks are deducted for incorrect answers, though for some parts, this could be up to 33%.
