BHU PG Admissions 2025 Seats Reservation

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) follows the Government of India guidelines for seat reservations in its postgraduate programs for the academic session 2025-26. The reservation policy covers categories such as Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). 

It includes provisions for supernumerary quotas for BHU Employee Wards, Paid Seats, Sports Seats, and Foreign Nationals. The university ensures equitable access to education by providing relaxations in eligibility criteria and age limits for these categories.

  • Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST): 15% and 7.5% reservation, respectively, for SC and ST candidates, subject to passing the qualifying examination and Central University Entrance Test (CUET).

  • Other Backward Classes (OBC): 27% reservation, with candidates required to submit an OBC certificate excluding the creamy layer.

  • Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): 10% reservation for candidates whose family income is below Rs. 8.00 lakh, excluding those with significant assets.

  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 5% seats reserved, with different categories of disabilities, including blindness, loco-motor disability, and others.

  • Relaxation in Eligibility: SC/ST candidates are not required to meet minimum aggregate marks for admission, while OBC and PwBD candidates are granted a 5% relaxation in eligibility requirements.

  • Age Limit Relaxation: SC/ST and PwBD candidates receive a 5-year age relaxation, and OBC candidates get a 3-year relaxation.

The university also offers institutional preference to its own students, reserving 25% of seats in the open category for them (excluding the MCA course). Additionally, supernumerary seats are available for categories such as BHU Employee Wards, Paid Seats, Sports, and Foreign Nationals, all subject to the prescribed eligibility criteria.
