Long Speech on Gandhi Jayanti For Students

Respected principal, teachers, and my dear fellow students

Today I feel proud to deliver this Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti speech in English. Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on 2nd October every year to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This day is a national holiday and a time to remember one of the greatest leaders of India.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. He was a lawyer who gave up his career to serve the country. People also call him Bapu with love and respect. He is known as the Father of the Nation because of his tireless efforts in India's freedom struggle.

Gandhiji believed in truth and non-violence. He said, “An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.” He inspired millions of people in India and across the world. His leadership in movements like the Non-Cooperation Movement, Salt March, and Quit India Movement helped India gain independence.

He also fought against social evils like untouchability and promoted equality, simplicity, and self-reliance. He lived a simple life and wore clothes made of khadi to support Indian weavers.

In this 2 October Gandhi Jayanti speech, we should remember how Gandhiji used peace instead of violence to bring change. His ideas continue to inspire leaders all over the world including Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr.

Every year, Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated at Raj Ghat in Delhi, where our Prime Minister and President pay tribute. His favourite bhajan, “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,” is sung in his memory.

As students, we can honour Mahatma Gandhi by being truthful, kind, and respectful. We can make our schools and homes better by following the path of honesty and non-violence.

Let us take a pledge today to follow his ideals and work for a better and peaceful society.
