Ayodhya Surpasses the Taj Mahal as the Top tourist Destination in Uttar Pradesh: In 2024, Uttar Pradesh saw an astounding 476.1 million visitors, setting new tourism records. Ayodhya, the country’s spiritual centre, is leading this increase and has reportedly overtaken Agra's Taj Mahal as the state's most popular tourist destination.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, at this time, Ayodhya welcomed an incredible 3,153 foreign visitors and 135.5 million domestic tourists. The main factor behind this rise has been the opening of the Ram temple. The Taj Mahal is still a popular destination for tourists from abroad, but domestic travellers are drawn to Ayodhya because of its spiritual appeal. While domestic visitor numbers fell by 193,000, Agra's overseas arrivals rose somewhat from 2.684 million in 2022–2023 to 27.70 million in 2023–2024. The Taj Mahal is still seen as an iconic landmark by foreign visitors. However, Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Prayagraj are becoming more and more popular destinations for domestic tourists seeking spiritual experiences.
