  • Bal Gangadhar Tilak

Born in 1856, Bal Gangadhar Tilak became a famous revolutionary warrior. He was a writer, a freedom activist, an Indian patriot, and a math instructor. He is among the well-known individuals from Maharashtra. In Pune, Tilak started his career as a teacher. He was instrumental in the founding of the Deccan Education Society in 1880. He spearheaded a large-scale campaign for India's independence and was instrumental in its achievement.

  • Dadasaheb Phalke

Born in 1870, Dadasaheb Phalke was an Indian producer, director, and screenwriter. He studied at Bombay's Sir J.J. School of Art. He took on temporary jobs as a photographer, painter, and set designer for theaters. In 1913, his first film, "Raja Harishchandra," became the first Indian cinema to be released. On February 16, 1944, he passed away. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was instituted by the Indian government in 1969 as a means of commemorating Phalke's contributions to Indian film. Among his popular films were "Lanka Dahan" (1917), "Sairandhri" (1920), "Shri Krishna Janma" (1918), and "Shakuntala" (1920). He is among Maharashtra's greatest leaders.

  • Savitribai Phule

Savitribai Phule was a Maharashtra-born poet, educator, and social activist. The third of January 1831 was her birthdate. In India, she played a crucial role in promoting women's rights and education. She is acknowledged as India's first female educator. She established Mahila Seva Mandali to teach women about the sati system, female feticide, and child marriage. The date of her death was March 10, 1897.

In 2001, she was awarded with the Bharat Ratna.

Born in Hinganghat in Wardha District of Maharashtra, Baba Amte was an Indian social worker and social activist popularly known for his work in the rehabilitation & empowerment of poor people suffering from leprosy. He founded 3 ashrams for treatment & rehabilitation of leprosy & disabled patients in Maharashtra. Baba Amte was awarded the Padma Shri in 1971, Padma Vibhushan in 1986 & Gandhi Peace Prize in 1999.

  • Dhanraj Pillay

Born in Khadki, Pune, Dhanraj Pillay is a former Indian field hockey player who resides in Mumbai. He is the former Captain of Indian hockey team. He is a member of the Indian Hockey Federation's Ad Hoc Committee. Pillay was awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna in 1999 and the Padma Shri in 2001.

Born in Barwani, Madhya Pradesh and brought up in Mumbai, Anil Kakodkar is a nuclear scientist. In addition to serving as the Director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre at Trombay, he was the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India. He played a major role in the nuclear tests conducted in India, using thorium as fuel for nuclear energy. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998, Padma Bhushan in 1999 & Padma Vibhushan in 2009.
