  • Gateway of India, Mumbai

One of the historical sites in Maharashtra is Mumbai, which overlooks the Arabian Sea and is known as the Gateway of India. This monument exhibits a fusion of Western, Arabic, and Indian architectural styles. Numerous ferry routes depart from this location and travel to Elephanta Caves.

  • Elephanta Caves

Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features rock-cut artwork from the nation's medieval era. The caves are located on the islands of Gharapuri and Elephanta. Of these caverns, two are Buddhist caves and five are Hindu caves devoted to Lord Shiva.

  • Aga Khan Palace

Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan III constructed Aga Khan Palace in Pune in 1892. The palace is renowned for its superb architectural design. Because Mahatma Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, and Mahadev Desai were imprisoned here, this palace has also been mentioned in the history of Indian freedom.

  • Ajanta Caves

One of the well-known locations in Maharashtra that receives frequent tourist visits is the Ajanta Caves. The city of Aurangabad is 99 kilometers away from this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Buddhist monks are frequently seen in the Ajanta caves, which are a Buddhist site.

  • Ellora Caves

Ellora Caves, located 15 kilometers from Aurangabad, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A collection of Buddhist, Jain, and Hindu sites make up the Ellora caves. Indian sculpture and architecture can be seen in these caverns.

  • Kanheri Cave 2

The greatest location for historical sites in Maharashtra is Kanheri Cave 2, a collection of rock-cut caverns. Buddhist sculptures, paintings, relief carvings, and inscriptions from the first century CE will be on display.   • Shaniwar Wada
The Peshwa Bajirao constructed the opulent house known as Shaniwar Wada. Nearly the whole city was covered by the Wada when it was constructed. But as of right now, this Wada only covers 626 acres of land.
  • Jaigad Fort
Constructed in the 16th century, Jaigad Fort is also known as the Fort of Victory. The fort is located in Ratnagiri and occupies 13 acres. The Jaigad Lighthouse, which is located next to Jaigad Fort, is another place you may see while you're here.
  • Raigad Fort
Raigad Fort is situated in Mahad's Sahyadri mountain range, at an elevation of 820 meters. You can only enter the fort from one side, and it will take you 1737 to get to the summit. Another option is to use the ropeway instead.
  • Sinhagad Fort
Sinhagad Fort is thought to have been constructed 2,000 years ago. Located in the Sahyadri mountain range, the fort has seen numerous conflicts, the most famous of which was the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670.

  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

Located in Mumbai, the vibrant capital of Maharashtra, is the modern yet historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), formerly known as Victoria Terminus. The magnificent building, which was constructed in 1878, is the ideal illustration of Victorian-Gothic architecture in India. The train station, which continues to operate normally, was actually designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Despite being a busy train station, you will feel as though you have entered the annals of British history.   • Kolaba Fort

One of the most significant historical sites in Maharashtra is Kolaba Fort, also known as Alibagh Fort, which is encircled by the Arabian Sea on all sides. During Shivaji Maharaj's rule in Maharashtra, this 300-year-old fort served as the main naval base. The sight of this remote military stronghold in the middle of the Arabian Sea is breathtaking. At low tide, it is accessible on foot from the Alibagh beach, which is no more than 2 kilometers away; at high tide, a boat must be rented. Because there aren't many people in the area—just a few beachgoers here and there—the walk is peaceful and picturesque.
