One thousand-year-old temple will be re-built  by July 2024

Recently the Commissioner of Archeology Department inspected that a 37 feet high temple will be built in the Mahakal temple complex. Key Points -
  • The Archeology Department will shape the structure of the ancient temple excavated about two and a half years ago in the Ujjain Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple complex into an ancient style Shiva temple.
  • Dr. Ramesh Yadav, officer of Archeology Department, Bhopal, said that the work of construction of a 37 feet high ancient Shiva temple, which is about a thousand years old, will be done with the stones obtained from there.

Special information about Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple of Ujjaini
  • Shri Mahakaleshwar of Ujjain is one of the twelve famous Jyotirlingas in India. The glory of Mahakaleshwar temple has been described in detail in various Puranas.
  • Starting from Kalidasa, many Sanskrit poets have emotionally enriched this temple.
  • Ujjain used to be the central point for the calculation of Indian time and Mahakal was considered the specific presiding deity of Ujjain.
  • The god of time, Shiva, in all his glory, reigns eternally in Ujjain.
  • The idol of Omkareshwar Shiva is installed in the sanctum sanctorum above the Mahakal temple.
