Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav launches 'Lokpath Mobile App'

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav launched the 'Lokpath Mobile App' through which road problems of the public will be resolved in seven days. Key Points
  • The mobile app will provide a facility for the general public to report problems on the routes and will also ensure the accountability of the officers.
  • It has been developed by Madhya Pradesh State Electronic Development Corporation Limited.
  • The scheme will be executed in two phases. The first phase consists of national highways, state highways, and main district roads which began on July 2, 2024. The second phase will include other district and rural roads.

Xenophrys apatani: New Horned Frog Species Discovered in Arunachal Pradesh

Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) identified a new species of forest-dwelling horned frog called "Xenophrys apatan i" at Talley  Wildlife Sanctuary in Lower Subansiri District, Arunachal Pradesh. Key Points
  • The new frog species was named after the Apatani tribe of Arunachal Pradesh in honor of their pioneering efforts to conserve wild flora and animals.
  • Due to a lack of genetic data, the new species' specimen was incorrectly recognized as Xenophrys maosonensis in 2019.
  • The result of ZSI Shillong's 2019 erroneous report on the Maoson horned frog (Xenophrys maosonensis) in India was amended after further investigation revealed significant genetic differences between the Indian specimen and X. maosonensis from Vietnam and China.

LIC Re-designated Siddhartha Mohanty as its CEO and Managing Director (MD)

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), India's largest public-sector insurance company, has re-designated its Chairman, Siddhartha Mohanty , as its new Managing Director (MD) and CEO. Key Points
  • He was named chairman of LIC from April 2023 to June 29, 2024, and MD and CEO from June 2024 to June 7, 2025.
  • Siddhartha Mohanty was named interim chairman of LIC in March 2023 for a three-year term.
  • LIC now employs four MDs: M. Jagannath, Tablesh Pandey, Sat Pal Bhanoo, and R. Doraiswamy.

  • Prior to the NSC's creation, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister was in charge of national security functions.

India Hosts 46th UNESCO World Heritage Committee Session

  • India is set to host the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in New Delhi from July 21 to July 31, 2024.
Key Points
  • Venue : The event will take place at the Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi . This will be the first instance of India hosting the meeting of the World Heritage Committee.
  • Participants: Over 2,500 delegates from State Parties, advisory bodies, senior diplomats, heritage experts, scholars, and researchers from 195 countries will attend.
  • Organizer : The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is organizing the event.

  • India has 42 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
  • Notable among these is Santiniketan , established by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, which became India’s 41st World Heritage Site in September 2023.
