RBI increases its forecast for FY25 GDP growth to 7.2 percent

About News: -
  • By a majority vote of 4 to 2, the six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) voted on Friday to maintain the benchmark repo rate at 6.5%.
  • The MPC maintained its stance of withdrawing accommodations and revised its growth forecast for the current fiscal year, which was previously anticipated to be 7.2%, to a somewhat higher 7.2%.
Key Points:-
  • The RBI maintained its forecast for CPI inflation in FY25, which is 4.5%, with Q1 at 4.9%, Q2 at 3.8%, Q3 at 4.6%, and Q4 at 4.5%, assuming a typical monsoon.
  • RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das revealed the bi-monthly monetary policy and stated that real gross domestic product (GDP) growth in India was projected by the National Statistical Office (NSO) to be 8.2 percent in 2023–2024.
  • "So far in 2024–25, domestic economic activity has been resilient," he stated, noting that manufacturing activity is still increasing due to growing local demand.

  • The 69-year-old Rohini Lokhande, who played for the national team alongside Kiran Bedi, Nirupama Mankad, Susan Das, and Udaya Kumar before she began coaching at an early age, will receive the first prize.
Key Points:- About Dilip Bose:-
  • Indian tennis player Dilip Bose was a professional player. He was the Asian championship winner and a player for the Indian Davis Cup team.
  • After retiring, he continued to serve as a coach and administrator. The All India Tennis Association created a lifetime achievement award in his honor in 2002.
  • Bose won the first Asian Championships in 1949 at his Calcutta South Club in the singles division.
  • As a result, in 1950, he was ranked 15 at Wimbledon. After he retired, he let Hans van Swol of the Netherlands win the second-round match; the final score was 6-4, 5-4. He had only recently recovered from a terrible episode of malaria, therefore the doctors had advised him not to play.

TRISHNA: ISRO and CNES of France Collaborating to Track Earth's Temperature

About News:- The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) released information about Mission TRISHNA (Thermal Infra-Red Imaging Satellite for High-Resolution Natural Resource Assessment), a joint project with the French space agency CNES (Centre National d'études spatiales), on June 5, 2024, World Environment Day. Key Points:-
    • TRISHNA is a satellite that is specifically designed to track the surface temperatures of Earth and slow down climate change.
  • The mission has a 5-year operational life and is scheduled for launch in 2025.
  • The information gathered from the mission will play a major role in supporting international programs including Global Water Watch, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN), and the Group on Earth Observations Global Agricultural Monitoring (GEOGLAM) initiative for agricultural monitoring.
  • Policy officials, watershed managers, and the farming community in India will be able to use the mission's findings to implement sustainable solutions. Consequently, assists in addressing issues with food and water.
  • It is anticipated that the mission would advance remote sensing technology, which is critical for tracking extreme weather and temperatures globally.
About TRISHNA:-
  • For surface energy budgeting at the regional to global scale, TRISHNA is designed to provide high spatial and high temporal resolution monitoring of Earth's surface temperature, emissivity, biophysical, and radiation variables.
  • The two main payloads on board the TRISHNA satellite are Thermal Infrared (TIR) and Visible-Near Infrared-Short Wave Infrared (VNIR-SWIR). TIR, which will be supplied by CNES, will have a 4-channel long-wave infrared imaging sensor that can map surface temperatures with high resolution.
  • The seven spectral bands of ISRO's VNIR-SWIR will aid in the monitoring of radiation and biophysical factors.
  • At an altitude of 761 kilometers (kilometers), the satellite will operate in a sun-synchronous orbit at a local time of 12:30 PM at the equator.
  • A spatial resolution of 57 meters (m) for land and coastal areas and 1 km for oceanic and polar regions will be provided by this orbit.
