India to formally convey to ATCM its plans to build new research station in Antarctica

  • The 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM) and the 26th Meeting of the Committee for Environment Protection will be held in Kochi from May 20-30 where countries engaged in research in the southern polar region will share the outcome of their scientific pursuits and also their future plans.
  • The completion of construction is targeted by January 2029.
  • Dakshin Gangotri, India's first research station in Antarctica, was commissioned in 1983.
  • India has two active research stations—Maitri and Bharti—in Antarctica.

Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail To Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal In Excise Policy Case

  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail this evening after being granted interim bail by the Supreme Court till 1st June in an excise policy case.
  • As per bail conditions, Mr. Kejriwal will not visit the Office of the Chief Minister and the Delh Secretariat.
  • He will not sign official files unless it is required and necessary for obtaining clearance or approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

  • According to the Henly report, the Indian financial capital city Mumbai has 58,800 millionaires, 236 centi-millionaires and 29 billionaires.
  • Mumbai was ranked as the 24th wealthiest city in the world. The other city in the top 50 was Delhi, with 30,700 millionaires, 123 centi-millionaires, and 16 billionaires.

Former Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Moosa Raza Passes Away

  • Moosa Raza, a former Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir and a renowned educationist, passed away at the age of 87 in Chennai.
  • Mr. Raza joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1960 and served in various capacities in the Gujarat and Central governments.
  • He was instrumental in negotiations during the armed uprising in Jammu and Kashmir in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
  • Mr. Raza was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010
