Magurele Laser in Romania becomes the most powerful laser in the world

• The laser at Magurele, near Bucharest, Romania marked a world premiere after reaching the highest power, 10 PetaWats.
• Magurele Laser (ELI-NP, Extreme Light Infrastructure-Nuclear Physics) is part of the European ELI project.
• The laser was designed to reach 10 PT of power through two laser arms, completed by a very bright laser beam that can reach up to 19.5 MeV.

Agni-Prime missile flight-tested by Strategic Forces Command & DRDO

• Agni-Prime Ballistic Missile has been successfully tested by Strategic Forces Command & DRDO from Odisha coast.
• Agni-Prime is a two-stage, surface to surface, canister-launched, road mobile and solid-fueled medium-range ballistic missile being developed by India's DRDO as the 6th missile in the Agni series.
• Manufacturer: Bharat Dynamics Limited.
• Operational range: 1,000–2,000 km.

India’s 1st home-grown gene therapy for cancer launched at IIT Bombay

• The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu launched India’s first home-grown gene therapy for cancer at IIT Bombay.
• This line of treatment is named “CAR-T cell therapy.”
• India’s first CAR-T cell therapy has been developed through collaboration between the IIT, Bombay and Tata Memorial Hospital in association with industry partner ImmunoACT.

India aims for 1st strategic petroleum reserve by 2029-30

• India plans to build its first privately managed strategic petroleum reserve (SPR) by 2029-30, granting the operator the freedom to trade all of the stored oil, the chief executive of Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd.
• India will build two new SPRs - the first a 18.3 million barrels cavern at Padur in southern Karnataka state, and then a 29.3 million barrels SPR in eastern Odisha state.

World's oldest man, Juan Vicente Perez Mora, dies at 114

• Juan Vicente Perez Mora, once certified as the world's oldest man by Guinness World Records, passed away on April 2, 2024, at the age of 114 in Venezuela.
• He was born on May 27, 1909.
• In 2019, he celebrated his 110th birthday, becoming the first male supercentenarian from Venezuela.
• Juan was announced as the oldest man living at 112 years and 253 days, as of 4 February 2022.

Japan introduced e-Visa only for Indian Tourists

• Japan launches eVisa for Indians, enabling 90-day stays for tourism without physical visa stickers, applying via VFS Global.
• Applicants receive an electronic visa and must show a digital visa issuance notice with a barcode at airport check-in.
• India passport ranking as per the Henley Passport Index 2024, is ranked at the 82nd position, with access to 62 countries.

Union Health Ministry launches myCGHS iOS app

• The myCGHS app for iOS aims to improve access to healthcare for CGHS beneficiaries, including features like Electronic Health Records and online appointment bookings.
• It is developed by NIC Himachal Pradesh and the NIC Health Team.
• The app includes secure 2-factor authentication, facilitating various services such as lab reports, medicine history, and wellness center locations.
