Uttar Pradesh Tops in Transmission Line Addition

According to the Central Electricity Authority findings, Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (UPPTCL) surpassed other state utilities by a significant margin, having added 1,460 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines rated at 220 kV or higher during FY24. Key Points
  • Following Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Ltd. (GETCO) secured the second position with 898 ckm of additions by the end of the fiscal year.
  • However, UPPTCL’s contribution to the overall increase from the state sector was notable, accounting for slightly more than 20% .
  • Gujarat followed with a share of 13% in this growth, with Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Bihar trailing behind.
  • This achievement underscores Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to bolstering its power infrastructure .

Muneeb Amin Bhat Muneeb Amin Bhatt, a young techie from Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir is now part of NASA's 'Hall of Fame' for identifying data breach vulnerabilities in their system. He is a cybersecurity researcher who had already earned recognition from Apple's 'Hall of Fame' in 2023 for reporting vulnerabilities in their system. Muneeb, a 22-year-old cyber security expert and native of Jungalpora village in south Kashmir, reported his findings to NASA through their Vulnerability Disclosure Program.

  • The 2024 Indian Premier League was the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League, a franchise Twenty20 cricket league in India, organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

  • The IPL Auction 2024 was held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
  • The 2024 IPL Auction, for the first time since the league’s inception in 2007, took place outside India. In its history of 16 years, the auction for the league has always been held in India.
  • Mitchell Starc broke all previous records and became the most expensive player ever with a deal of INR 24.75 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders.
  • Harshal Patel with a price of INR 11.75 crores, was  the costliest Indian player at the auction signed by Punjab Kings.
  • In 16 years, the auctioneer for the league has always been a male, but not this time. For the 2024 IPL, the auction was hosted by a female auctioneer, Mallika Sagar.

Himalayan Ibex
  • Local name: Tangrol
  • IUCN Indian status: Least Concern/Uncommon
  • Characteristic:
    • It is recognized by its contoured horns and beards, which are the primary reason for their poaching.
    • Male Himalayan ibexes have longer, more heavily ridged, and curved horns than females, and their horns are also larger in size.
  • The Ibex does not always migrate to lower heights in winter and mostly stays at fairly high altitude using wind blown ridges.
  • Distribution: Trans Himalayas region of Ladakh and the Greater Himalayas and Pir Panjals of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Blue Sheep (Bharal)
  • Family group: Solitary or in small groups of less than 20 animals which consist of almost entirely one sex.
  • Main Predators: Snow leopard, leopard, mountain fax, tawny eagle..
