General Elections 2024
  • General Elections for the 18th Lok Sabha were held in seven phases in constituencies spread across 36 states and federal territories.
  • As per the Chief Election Commissioner, India has created a world record with 64.2 crore voters, including 31.2 crore women , participating in the Lok Sabha elections this year.
  • Over 68,000 monitoring teams and 1.5 crore polling and security personnel were involved in the world's largest electoral exercise.
  • The 2024 General Elections exemplified the strength of democratic processes and the importance of civic responsibility. India's ability to conduct such an extensive electoral exercise successfully underscores its robust democratic institutions and the enduring spirit of its people.

  • Elections were contested for 543 Lok Sabha seats .
  • As a party Bharatiya Janata Party won 240 seats , Indian National Congress won 99 seats and Samajwadi Party secured 37 seats .

  • Uttar Pradesh, the state with the highest number of Lok Sabha seats, i.e., 80 , is one the most important states of the country during the General Elections, as winning the majority in the state gives a boost to any party in their bid of forming their government in the centre.
  • Samajwadi Party has emerged as the frontrunner with 37 seats , BJP won 33, INC won 6 and others 4. The INDIA bloc, led by the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, has made a remarkable comeback and taken the lead over the BJP-led NDA in Uttar Pradesh.

  • Arun Govil (BJP) from Meerut won by 10585 seats.
  • Hema Malini Deol (BJP) from Mathura won by 293407 seats.
  • Kishori Lal of Congress won by 167196 seats in Amethi over Smriti Irani.
  • Awadhesh Prasad of Samajwadi party won from Faizabad over Lallu Singh of BJP by 54567 seats.

Schemes/Initiatives

Tele Manas v  A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to facilitate collaboration between the two ministries in operating a special cell of Tele MANAS, the National Telemental Health Helpline of MoHFW, as a pilot project for a period of two years at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune.

v  Tele MANAS is the digital extension of the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) , offering comprehensive, integrated, and inclusive 24/7 tele-mental health services. v  The initiative provides a toll-free number, 14416 , in each State and Union Territory (UT) for easy access to mental health support. v  Currently, there are 51 operational Tele MANAS cells functioning across all 36 States and UTs, offering services in 20 different languages. v  Since its launch in October 2022 , Tele MANAS has received over 10 lakh calls and is managing more than 3,500 calls daily. v  The data indicate a significant demand for mental health services and underscores the importance of addressing mental health issues comprehensively and inclusively, particularly in specialized contexts like the Armed Forces.
Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign v  The Prime Minister of India has launched ‘ Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day. He planted a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi. v  The campaign aims to plant millions of trees across the country.
