Govt issues stamp to honour legendary singer Mukesh on 100th birth anniversary

About News:
  • The Ministry of Culture (MoC) celebrated the centennial of the renowned Indian playback singer Mukesh Chand Mathur's birth on July 24, 2024, by releasing a commemorative stamp in his honor. The commemorative stamp is a representation of Mukesh's outstanding career and voice.
  • The Chief Guest of the event, which took place at Akashwani Rang Bhawan, All India Radio (AIR), New Delhi, Delhi, was Gajedra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism.
  • In addition, India Post released a commemorative postage stamp worth Rs. 30 in honor of the legendary singer Mukesh's 100th birthday.

RBI issues revised framework for domestic money transfer

About News:
  • The framework for Domestic Money Transfer (DMT) services provided by regulated firms has been updated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). RBI has tightened the criteria for Know Your Customer (KYC). The new framework modifications will take effect on November 1, 2024.
  • This is consistent with the RBI's efforts to stop and deter cyber fraudsters from abusing banking channels.
Key Points:
  • Under Section 18 read with Section 10(2) of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (Act 51 of 2007), the RBI released these updated recommendations in the form of a circular. ii. In accordance with the new guidelines, the remitting banks must keep track of the recipients' names and addresses in order to provide cash pay-out services.
  • Since the DMT framework was introduced in 2011, the number of banking locations has significantly increased, and payment methods have advanced. Thus, the requirement to adjust to these changing dynamics is reflected in these modifications.
  • According to the Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines published in 2016, banks and business correspondents (BCs) offering cash-pay in services must register remitters using a confirmed mobile phone number and a self-certified "Officially Valid Document (OVD)."
  • This will further aid in lowering the possibility of fraud and help to validate identity verification.
  • Validation via AFA As a result of these recent modifications, it is now necessary for each transaction to undergo validation using an Additional Factor of Authentication (AFA).
  • Online transactions will be safe and secure thanks to this extra security safeguard.
  • Income Tax Act Compliance: Under the new guidelines, remitting banks and BCs must now abide by the terms of the Income Tax Act, 1961, as well as any applicable cash deposit-related rules and regulations.
  • Include remitter details in IMPS/NEFT messages: The updated framework also mandates that cash-based remittance transactions be identified and that remitter details be included in Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) or National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) transaction messages.
  • Card-to-card transfers are no longer covered by the DMT framework and are instead subject to the current rules that are unique to these kinds of transactions, according to the new standards.
  • The restrictions and transaction size guidelines included in the circular dated October 5, 2011, among others, shall remain in effect.

  • Ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, which will take place from July 26 to August 11, Paris, Nita Ambani, the creator of the Reliance Foundation, has been re-elected for a second term as an Indian member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
  • At the 142nd IOC session, which is being held in Paris, France, from July 22 to 24, she earned 100% of the vote.
  • In 2016, Nita Ambani became the first female Indian member of the IOC.
Other Conferences:
  • Eight new IOC members—four of them women and four of men—as well as two new Vice-Presidents (VP) and Executive Board (EB) members were elected during the 142nd IOC session. The EB members are appointed to four-year terms.
  • The VP of IOC is chosen to be Argentinean Gerardo Werthein and Moroccan Nawal El Moutawakel.
  • In addition, Li Lingwei (China) was chosen to join the Executive Board, while Mikaela Cojuangco Jaworski (Philippines) was re-elected for a second term.

Hindustan Zinc launches Asia's first low-carbon zinc brand EcoZen

About News:
  • Asia's first low-carbon green zinc brand, EcoZen, was introduced by Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), the second-largest integrated zinc producer in the world. Through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), it has been verified by a major sustainability consulting group.
Key Points:
  • With a carbon footprint of less than one tonne of carbon equivalent every tonne of zinc produced, EcoZen boasts low-carbon zinc.
  • Because it is produced with renewable energy, its carbon impact is almost 75% less than the average for the world.
  • By galvanizing one tonne of steel with EcoZen, this will lead to a decrease in carbon emissions of roughly 400 kg overall throughout their value chain.
  • The goal of HZL to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 is in line with this program.
  • According to the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), HZL, a mining and metals firm situated in Udaipur, Rajasthan, is the most sustainable metals and mining company in the world.

  • At a ceremony held at the French Embassy in New Delhi, Delhi, Rehaab Allana received the insignia of the Officier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from Thierry Mathou, the French Ambassador to India.

  • Rahaab Allana works as a publisher and curator at New Delhi's Alkazi Foundation for the Arts. He is presently employed with the Asia Society (India Chapter) as a member of the Arts and Culture Committee.

Moidams Of Assam Receives Prestigious 43rd UNESCO World Heritage Site Tag in Cultural Category

  • The Ahom Dynasty's mound-burial system, known as the Moidams of Assam, is listed among the culturally significant UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is the 43rd Indian site to be listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
  • This information was provided on July 26, 2024, by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism.
  • The World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) decided to include the Moidam of Assam during its 46th session.
  • The first-ever meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee will take place in India, in New Delhi, from July 21–31, 2024.
Key Points :-
  • The first site in the cultural category and the third site overall in Assam and the Northeast to be inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List is the Moidams of Assam, or the Mound-Burial System of the Ahom Dynasty.
  • Manas Wildlife Sanctuary and Assam's Kaziranga National Park were included to the UNESCO list in 1985 under the Natural category.
Concerning Moidam:-
  • The graves known as moidams, or "home for spirit," are essentially hollow brick vaults that hold the remains of Tai-Ahom kings and royals.
  • When the Tai Ahom first came to Assam in the thirteenth century, they built wood moidams for the royal families. Later, they switched to stone and burned bricks.
  • The Tai Ahom created a unique funerary custom of building moidams for the interment of their kings because they believed that they were divine.
  • There are ninety Moidams, mostly located in eastern Assam in the foothills of the Patkai Ranges.
  • A holy geographical area was formed by Tai-Ahom's creation of moidams, or burial mounds, in the hills, forests, and rivers. Bark scrolls were planted in the Moidams, and banyan trees were used to make coffins.
  • These burial mounds are holy to the Tai-Ahom and are a reflection of their own burial customs.

Sahitya Academy Award Laureate Father Francis D’Britto Passed Away

  • Father Francis D'Britto, a well-known Marathi poet, environmentalist, and Catholic priest, was honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award. He passed away in the Palghar region of Maharashtra at the age of 81. He was born in Jeladi village, Nandakhal, Maharashtra, on December 4, 1942.

  • The 'Harit Vasai' movement, which defends small farmers and the environment from wealthy land developers, was started by Francis D'Britto.
  • In January 2020, Osmanabad (Maharashtra) hosted the 93rd All India Marathi Literary Conference, which he presided over as president.
  • In addition, he had served as editor of the Suvarta community journal.
  • For his translation of "Bible: The New Testment (English) Religious Text" into Marathi, "Subodh Bible-Naya Karar," he was awarded the 2013 Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize.
  • With this, he surpassed Father Thomas Stephens (1549–1619), a British missionary from the 17th century, as the second person to translate the Bible into Marathi. Father Stephen wrote the epic poem "Krista Purana," which is a combination of Konkani and Marathi and describes the life of Jesus.
  • In 2013, he was also granted the best translation literary award by the Maharashtra government.
  • It was for his literary work that he received the Dnyanoba-Tukaram Puraskar. When the prize was established in 2007, the Catholic priest was the first to receive it.
