Telangana Marks Ten Years Since Formation from Andhra Pradesh

• The demand for states based on linguistic lines led to the creation of Andhra State in 1953, which was formed out of Madras State.
• Subsequent discussions and the 1956 recommendation by the States Reorganization Committee resulted in the merger of Telangana with Andhra State, creating Andhra Pradesh with Hyderabad as its capital.
