Gautam Buddha Wildlife Sanctuary

Established in 1976, the Gautam Buddha Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Gaya district of Bihar. The area was formerly a privately owned hunting reserve before being turned into a wildlife sanctuary. Sections of the lower Gangetic plains ecoregion, as well as the moist and dry deciduous forests of Chota Nagpur, are included in the sanctuary. Among the significant animal species are tigers, leopards, sambars, sloth bears, wolves, spotter deer, nilgai, and chinkaras.

Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary

Munger district is home to the Bhimbandh Wildlife Sanctuary, which was established in 1976. This sanctuary spans 681.99 square kilometers and is primarily composed of the grassland and forest biomes. The foothills and valley areas are home to several hot springs, the best of which can be found at Bhimbandh, Sita Kund, and Rishi Kund. Among the significant faunal species are chitals, four-horned antelopes, nilgais, tigers, panthers, wild boars, sloth bears, and sambar deer. Grasslands, bamboo forests, sal woods, and other vegetation types are important. The sanctuary is most famous for its bird life, more so than any other animal species, such as peafowl, grey partridge, quail, Malabar hornbill, falcon, and kite.

Pant (Rajgir) Wildlife Sanctuary

In the Nalanda district, the Rajgir Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1978. It is located on the Gangetic Plain to the south. The sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife, including Asian palm civets, Indian crested porcupines, blue bulls, striped hyenas, chital or spotted deer, and jungle cats. There are also many different kinds of birds there, such as the painted spurfowl, the Eurasian thick-kneed, the patridge, the black and grey quails, the hornbills, the parrots, the doves, the mynas, and so on. In addition to the sanctuary, the Forest Department has constructed a Bamb Park (Venu Vana) with cheetahs, nilgais, and sambhars.

Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary

The Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1982 and is located in the Bihar district of Kaimur. It is the state's largest sanctuary, covering an area of over 1342 square kilometers. Among the significant faunal species are sloth bears, chitals, four-horned antelope, nilgais, sloth tigers, Indian leopards, Indian boars, and sambar deer. The Karkat and Telhar waterfalls are the best among the many waterfalls in the valley surroundings. Anupam Lake is the most well-known of the several lakes.

Udaypur Wildlife Sanctuary

The West Champaran district of Bihar is home to the 1978-established Udaypur Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary, which occupies 8.87 square kilometers, is located in the flood basin of the Gandaki river on an oxbow lake. Among the significant wildlife are wolves, porcupines, civets, nilgai, spotted and barking deer, wild boar, and other creatures.
