Omika Shukla discovered the field of architecture in the middle of Class 11, after initially preparing for JEE Main Paper 1. Her early mock test performance made her rethink her plans, and she eventually found herself drawn towards architectural engineering.
With limited preparation material for some Aptitude topics, Omika joined a free batch on Physics Wallah and used it alongside her own research and practice. As the exam approached, she focused heavily on Architecture, balancing Aptitude, Mathematics, and Drawing.
Her focused preparation helped her score 99.47 percentile in JEE Main Paper 2.

Omika first started preparing for JEE Main Paper 1 in Class 11. However, her early mock-test experience made her reconsider whether engineering was the right direction for her.
“Yes, in the starting of 11th I started to prepare for JEE — paper one only. But the first few mock tests that I appeared in, I could not perform that well…”
While researching different fields, she came across architectural engineering and became increasingly interested in it.
“So just one day I came across this video which was telling how civil engineering is different from architectural engineering, and it just struck in my mind that okay this also exists…”
Her interest grew as she continued researching the field, eventually motivating her to prepare for JEE Main Paper 2.
After discovering the field, Omika started collecting material for Aptitude and making her own notes. She also used modules and explored other coaching options, although she could not regularly attend those classes because of timing issues.
“So from that time I'd just keep studying about whatever I'd find, and now I have collected a lot of parts of Aptitude.”
She also assessed her own strengths and weaknesses. While she focused heavily on Aptitude, she felt less confident about Maths and practised Drawing according to the time she could give it.
One of the challenges Omika faced was finding sufficient material for some Aptitude topics. Since she was already studying her Class 12 course with PW, she came across a free PW batch that helped her cover those areas.
“So I came across this free batch by Physics Wallah, I enrolled in it, and it was very helpful.”
The videos helped her cover topics for which she had previously struggled to find useful material. She also used other sources and the internet to research topics in greater depth.
Omika entered the exam with a clear order for attempting the sections. She started with Aptitude, followed it with Maths and kept Drawing for the end.
“First I attempted the aptitude part, and after that Maths, because my Maths was on the weaker side, and then at the end I attended the drawing.”
She was unable to complete the colouring in her final Drawing question, but was still satisfied with her overall performance.
“But my last question I couldn't finish the coloring in it, but surprisingly my score was really good in drawing too.”
Her approach was to use her stronger areas first and then move through the remaining sections with the time available.
Omika used mock tests to identify the areas where she was more comfortable. Based on this, she decided not to spend equal preparation time on every part of Maths.
“Ma'am ha yeh to bahut saare maine mock test NDA Abhyas app mein diye the, to I some figured out strong point.”
She continued working on selected Maths topics towards the end while keeping Aptitude as a major focus.
“But still maine end-end ke days mein thoda integral, differences, aur ye sab dekha, and I skip the whole part of it.”
This allowed her to build her preparation around her strengths while giving focused attention to the areas she felt needed more work.
For Omika, interest in the field itself became a source of motivation. She said that she enjoyed researching the subjects she was preparing and continued looking for more information beyond what she was directly studying.
“I don't know ma'am, I just — I enjoyed this preparation, I don't enjoy studying so much, but this preparation period, I love this period, and I cherish those moments also.”
Her interest in becoming an architect helped her remain focused even while balancing different subjects and Class 12 responsibilities.
Omika's preparation began with discovering architecture in Class 11 and gradually developed into a focused approach towards JEE Main Paper 2. She used PW resources, built her Aptitude preparation, practised Drawing, worked on Maths and used mock tests to identify her stronger areas.
Her effort resulted in a 99.47 percentile in JEE Main Paper 2.
For students preparing for the next cycle, Omika's advice is to keep learning, continue practising and trust their preparation.
“Just believe in yourself, everything is going to be fine. I got more than expected, and same is going to happen with everyone. It's all going to be well in the end.”
Her result came from combining a clear interest in architecture with focused preparation and a strategy that worked around her strengths.
Omika Shukla's JEE Main Paper 2 preparation began after she discovered architectural engineering in Class 11. She used PW resources, including its free batch for Aptitude, while preparing for Maths and Drawing alongside Class 12. By identifying her strengths, practising relevant topics and planning her exam attempt carefully, she scored 99.47 percentile in JEE Main Paper 2.
