NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2027

If you want to take admission to the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), you should first check whether you meet the eligibility requirements for your preferred programme. The NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2027 includes the age limit, educational qualifications, and programme-specific requirements for undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. admissions. 

It also explains the eligibility conditions for the Artisan category, NIFT Lateral Entry Admission (NLEA), and Foreign/NRI candidates so that you can complete the application process without any confusion.

Note: The information below is based on the official NIFT Admission Bulletin 2026. The same eligibility requirements have been used as the reference for 2027 unless NIFT announces any changes.

NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2027

Before applying, you should ensure that you fulfil the academic and age requirements for your selected programme. If you do not meet the prescribed conditions, your admission may be cancelled during the verification process.

The age requirement depends on the programme you apply for. For undergraduate programmes such as B.Des and B.F.Tech, you should be less than 24 years of age as on 1 August 2027.

For postgraduate programmes and Ph.D. admissions, there is no upper age limit.

NIFT Age Relaxation

Candidates belonging to reserved categories receive relaxation in the upper age limit for undergraduate programmes.

The relaxation applies only to undergraduate admissions. There is no age restriction for postgraduate programmes.

NIFT Maximum Age Limit

For B.Des and B.F.Tech admissions, the upper age limit is less than 24 years on the prescribed date. Candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories can claim the applicable age relaxation as per NIFT rules.

NIFT Educational Qualification

Your educational qualification depends on the programme you wish to pursue. NIFT accepts qualifications from recognised boards and institutions. Some programmes also require Mathematics as a compulsory subject.

Eligibility for Undergraduate Programmes

NIFT Eligibility for B.Des

You can apply for the Bachelor of Design programme if you satisfy any one of the following qualifications.

  • Passed Class 12 (10+2) from a recognised Central or State Board

  • Passed Senior Secondary examination from National Open School with at least five subjects

  • Completed a 3 or 4-year diploma recognised by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education after Class 10

  • Passed an equivalent examination recognised by the Association of Indian Universities

  • Passed GCE Advanced Level or International Baccalaureate (IB)

NIFT Eligibility for B.F.Tech

For the Bachelor of Fashion Technology programme, Mathematics is compulsory wherever applicable.

Accepted Qualification

  • Passed Class 12 from a recognised board with Mathematics

  • Passed National Open School Senior Secondary examination with five subjects including Mathematics

  • Completed a 3 or 4-year Engineering diploma recognised by AICTE or a State Board after Class 10

  • Passed an equivalent examination recognised by the Association of Indian Universities with Mathematics

  • Passed GCE Advanced Level with Mathematics or International Baccalaureate (IB)

NIFT Qualification Criteria

The qualification requirements differ for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. While B.Des accepts candidates from different educational backgrounds, B.F.Tech requires Mathematics. The postgraduate courses require a bachelor's degree or diploma, depending on the programme.

NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2027 for Postgraduate Programmes

The postgraduate programmes at NIFT have different academic requirements. Unlike undergraduate courses, there is no upper age limit for admission. You should check the qualification required for your preferred programme before submitting the application. The eligibility requirements are based on the official NIFT Admission Bulletin.

NIFT Eligibility for M.Des

You can apply for the Master of Design programme if you meet any one of the following conditions.

Accepted Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in any discipline from a recognised institute or university in India

  • Undergraduate diploma of at least 3 years from NIFT or NID

Note: M.Des is an advanced design programme. It expects you to have a basic understanding of design concepts and skills before joining the course.

NIFT Eligibility for MFM

The Master of Fashion Management programme accepts candidates from different academic backgrounds.

Accepted Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in any discipline from a recognised institute or university in India

  • Undergraduate diploma of at least 3 years from NIFT or NID

NIFT Eligibility for M.F.Tech

The Master of Fashion Technology programme is open to candidates with the following qualifications.

Accepted Qualification

  • B.F.Tech. from NIFT

  • B.E. or B.Tech. from a recognised institute or university

  • Four-year B.F.Tech. degree from a recognised institute or university

NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2027 for Artisan Category

NIFT also offers admission under the Artisan category for the B.Des programme.

You should satisfy the required educational qualification and also fulfil the artisan-related requirements.

NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2027 for Lateral Entry Admission (NLEA)

NIFT allows eligible diploma holders to take admission directly into the third semester through the NIFT Lateral Entry Admission (NLEA) scheme.

B.Des NLEA Eligibility

NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2027 for Foreign Nationals, NRI, OCI, PIO and SAARC Candidates

Candidates applying under these categories must satisfy the same academic qualifications prescribed for the respective programme.

What is the age limit for B.Des admission at NIFT?

For undergraduate programmes, candidates should be less than 24 years of age as on 1 August of the admission year. Reserved category candidates can claim the prescribed relaxation.

Is there any age limit for M.Des or MFM admissions?

No. There is no upper age limit for postgraduate programmes, including M.Des, MFM, and M.F.Tech.

Is Mathematics compulsory for every NIFT course?

No. Mathematics is compulsory only for admission to the B.F.Tech programme. It is not mandatory for B.Des.
