Students planning to appear for the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) should understand the eligibility requirements before submitting the application form. The eligibility conditions explain the age requirement, educational qualification, number of attempts, and admission rules for the Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme at the participating institutes.
Here, we’ll explain the UCEED Eligibility Criteria 2027 based on the official UCEED 2027 notification, including the eligibility requirements, age limit, qualifying examination, and other important criteria candidates need to meet.
You can apply for UCEED 2027 if you satisfy all the prescribed eligibility conditions. These include:
Age requirement
Maximum number of attempts
Educational qualification
You must fulfil all three conditions together. Meeting only one or two of them will not make you eligible to appear for the examination.
The UCEED 2027 age limit varies according to the candidate’s category. As per the official UCEED 2027 Information Brochure, candidates must meet the following age criteria:
| Category | UCEED 2027 Age Limit |
|---|---|
| OPEN / EWS / OBC-NCL | Born on or after October 1, 2002 |
| SC / ST / PwD | Born on or after October 1, 1997 |
You can appear for UCEED a maximum of two times, and both attempts must be in consecutive years.
Keep the following points in mind:
You can attempt UCEED only twice.
Both attempts must be consecutive.
You cannot skip a year and use your remaining attempt later.
Your UCEED score remains valid only for the admission cycle in which you appear.
Your UCEED educational qualification 2027 depends on when you first appeared for your Class XII exam. To appear for UCEED 2027, you should have appeared for your Class XII exam for the first time in either 2026 or 2027.
If you appeared for the first time in 2025 or earlier, you are not eligible. Students from all streams, including Science, Commerce, and Arts, can apply. This UCEED Class 12 eligibility 2027 rule does not restrict you based on your stream at this stage.
The UCEED qualifying examination 2027 can be any of the following:
Class XII exam from a Central or State Board
Intermediate or Pre-University exam
Final exam of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy
NIOS Senior Secondary exam with five subjects
Any board exam recognised as equivalent by the Association of Indian Universities
GCE Advanced Level exam
Cambridge High School Certificate or IB Diploma
A three-year diploma recognised by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education
If your Class XII exam is not a public exam, you must have already passed one public exam before you appear for UCEED. This is an important part of the UCEED qualification criteria 2027.
Once you qualify for UCEED, you also need to meet separate rules to apply for the BDes programme. This section explains what you need to apply for BDes in 2027.
For BDes admission, you should have passed all five subjects in your Class XII (or equivalent) exam in 2026 or 2027. If you first appeared for this exam in 2025 or earlier, you cannot apply.
Your stream also matters for UCEED eligibility for BDes 2027. The rules are different across institutes:
IIT Bombay UCEED eligibility 2027 allows candidates from all streams. This also applies to IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Indore.
UCEED eligibility for Science students with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics allows you to apply to IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee as well.
UCEED eligibility for Commerce students and UCEED eligibility for Arts students is limited to IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Indore.
IIITDM Jabalpur asks for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology.
If you hold a diploma, the UCEED diploma eligibility 2027 rule may apply to you. Some participating institutes may not accept a three-year diploma for BDes admission, so you should check with the specific institute before you apply.
The UCEED Eligibility Criteria 2027 are based on the official UCEED 2027 notification released by IIT Bombay.
You should keep checking the official UCEED website for updates.
UCEED 2027 will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2027, in the forenoon session.
More details will be released by October 1, 2026, on the official website.
Understanding the UCEED Eligibility Criteria 2027 helps you plan your application well in advance. Check your age, your attempt count, and your qualifying exam status against these rules. If you meet all three conditions, you can go ahead and prepare for UCEED 2027 with confidence.
