NTSE Stage 1 is a state-level exam. It has two sections – Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The SAT has three subjects – Science, Social Science & Mathematics. The number of questions and maximum marks for each of these sections are tabulated below:

You must also note that there is no negative marking in Stage 1 of NTSE exam.
Students shortlisted from Stage 1 of NTSE will be eligible to appear for Stage 2 of NTSE. This stage too has the two sections – MAT and SAT. Just like in Stage 1, the SAT of Stage 2 has three subjects – Science, Social Science & Mathematics. The total number of questions, marking scheme and time duration are tabulated below:
