Since its inception with just two projects in 1960, the BRO has evolved into a dynamic organization with 18 projects across 11 States and three Union Territories. It has emerged as a premier infrastructure construction agency, specializing in high-altitude and snow-bound areas.
  • Operating at 9,000 to 19,000 feet along the Northern and Western frontiers, the BRO has constructed over 62,214 roads, 1,005 bridges, seven tunnels, and 21 airfields. Its endeavours extend beyond India's borders, consisting friendly nations like Bhutan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan.
  • In the fiscal year 2023-24, the BRO completed 125 infrastructure projects worth Rs 3,611 crore, including the prestigious Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh. The organization is set to embark on the construction of the Shinkun La Tunnel, poised to become the world's highest tunnel at 15,800 feet.
  • With a surge in budgetary allocations, the BRO has augmented its capabilities and expanded its operational footprint. This enhanced support has facilitated the undertaking of critical projects and accelerated infrastructure development, propelling the organization towards greater heights of excellence.
